I think Max Hall starts for the Cardinals -- maybe for the rest of the year. The biggest reason Ken Whisenhunt let Matt Leinart go is because he likes Hall and is sure Hall has a chance to be better than Leinart in his system. With Derek Anderson struggling mightily, there's no reason not to play Hall now.

Appearing on Saturday's Notre Dame-Purdue halftime show, Peter King of NBC Sports revealed the details of his recent conversation with Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt.

According to King, Whisenhunt called Max Hall "the best of our four quarterbacks" in training camp.

Whisenhunt is clearly comfortable with the undrafted rookie from Brigham Young as his primary backup, having released Matt Leinart to promote Hall. The Cardinals also are not known to have made a serious run at Sage Rosenfels, who was the best quarterback available on the trade market prior to his acquisition by the Giants.

But there could be more to this story. Much more.

Whisenhunt acknowledged that Hall outplayed current starter Derek Anderson, strongly indicating that Anderson could be on a short leash. Anderson's contract is also heavily incentive laden, based on starts and statistics. If he doesn't prove to be the answer, it will present a lose-lose situation for Arizona. The Cardinals could end up losing money, in addition to games.

Despite his recent elevation to the starting job, Anderson's job security is weak, and his post-2007 track record inspires no confidence. At this point, we wouldn't be surprised if Hall is starting games by the Cardinals' Week 6 bye.

Most rookie quarterbacks struggle, so don't expect Hall to make a big fantasy impact in 2010. But he could be a very nice prospect for owners in keeper leagues.

The undrafted rookie from BYU made a strong case on Thursday night for at least making the Arizona roster, completing 7 of 9 passes for 126 yards and scoring on a 6-yard run in the Cardinals' 20-10 victory over Washington, although the performance came against a Redskins team made up almost entirely of reserves.

"Hopefully the coaches liked what they saw," Hall said. "I want to be here. I like it here, so hopefully they'll keep me around."

Derek Anderson , starting for the second week in a row ahead of Matt Leinart , played one series, completing 2 of 3 for 47 yards for Arizona. Leinart played the next two series, going 3 of 5 for 14 yards.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt hasn't officially announced a starter, but certainly all signs point to Anderson.

As mentioned, all signs point to to Derek Anderson as the starting QB. Regardless, its shaping up to be a fantasy nightmare.

A first-round draft pick in 2007, Gonzalez faces an uphill climb to return to the starting lineup, given the performances of players like Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon.

Not a major concern for the Colts given the progress of Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie. However, there's no timetable for Gonzalez' return. Clearly his role in the starting offense and possible roster spot could be in jeopardy.

For the first time since 1995, the Colts won't have WR Marvin Harrison to lean on. That's fine. The Harrison of the past season and a half shouldn't be missed. Reggie Wayne is one of the league's premier receivers. His 432 receptions rank No. 4 in the league over the past five seasons. His 6,230 yards are a league high. The pressure is on Anthony Gonzalez to lift his game yet again. No longer is the 2007 first-round draft pick the No. 3 guy. He's No. 2, and will draw more attention than he has in the past. Rookie Austin Collie looks to be a perfect fit as the No. 3 option, whether he lines up split wide or in the slot. Pierre Garcon possesses deep speed and should divvy up playing time with Collie.

Denver Kicker Matt Prater skipped today's practice, the final session of training camp, which began at 1 p.m., but was at the Broncos' Dove Valley facility.

Fisher took another shot at ESPN's Adam Schefter for reporting the Titans were interested in former Colts receiver Marvin Harrison.

"We've not contacted Marvin. We've had no contact whatsoever with Marvin or his agent, and to be quite honest with you I don't know where Adam Schefter got that information,'' Fisher said.

Fisher said there was no possibility of the team changing its mind.

Marvin Harrison is an eight-time Pro Bowl selection and one of the NFL’s most productive receivers all-time. And over the years with the Colts, he had his share of good days against the Titans. But don’t look for him to be joining them.

A report on ESPN tonight indicated the Titans had reached out to Harrison and are one of the teams interested in him. It seems like every time a notable receiver is on the market the Titans get linked to him.

I’ve been told nothing’s going on between the Titans and the 36-year-old Harrison. For now, the Titans are more interested in getting rookie Kenny Britt up to speed, and coaches are very happy with what they’ve seen from veterans Justin Gage and Nate Washington.

I won’t be surprised if the Titans add a veteran to the mix at some point
