General manager Dave Gettleman stated the obvious this summer when he said this would be an important season for Daniel Jones. The Giants brass hasn’t wavered in its belief that the player it took with the sixth pick in the 2019 draft has the makings of a franchise quarterback. But there was an expectation that Jones would erase all doubts about that belief during his third season.

Midway through this critical year, Jones has not provided a definitive answer.

The story went on to talk about where Jones ranks in the NFL in various stats, and it's not pretty. In the story, co-owner John Mara said this offseason that he wouldn’t measure Jones by “any specific benchmarks other than let’s win some more games.” The Giants are 3-6 and Jones has an 11-24 career record as a starter. The good news is the offense seems to be getting healthy, so Jones still has time to make his mark, and a case to be the team's future starter.

MRI revealed that Packers’ RB Aaron Jones has “a mild” MCL sprain and he is expected to be out 1-2 weeks, per source.

This updates a story we had earlier today. As we stated before, the team has always been cautious with Jones, so IR isn't out of the question. But, the Packers have a Week 13 bye, so things do seem to add up for the team to possibly sit Jones two weeks and then an extra week over the bye. As The Athletic story we posted said, the team is very comfortable with Dillon as the RB1, so that could also play into the team's timeline with Jones.

Days like Sunday, though, show why the Packers drafted A.J. Dillon so high and why, whether it’s for the next couple weeks or at any point in the future, the Packers should be just fine were they to lean on Dillon as the feature back.

Jones is said to have suffered a sprained MCL, which could keep him out a couple of weeks. The story said after the injury, Jones had tears in his eyes and was looking for his family in the stands. The Packers have always seemed to use caution with Jones so perhaps an IR stint will happen. The team didn't update Jones' status after the game but we'll likely hear something soon. It appears Dillon will be in store for a much bigger workload at least for the short term, and as the story said, Dillon's improvement in the passing game should mean a smooth transition for the offense.

Jones went down in the third quarter and had to be helped off the field. He will undergo and MRI to further evaluate the extent of the injury, but it looks like the Packers backfield, for the time being, belongs to AJ Dillon, who came in and scored two touchdowns and had 66 yards in Green Bay’s 17-0 win over the Seahawks to move back atop the NFC standings after Arizona’s loss to Carolina. The Packers have a huge game next week at Minnesota with a close to all but lock up the NFC North. Green Bay’s bye is in Week 13.

The Carolina Panthers are moving forward with the thought process that QB Sam Darnold (shoulder) will not play again this season and will give Cam Newton a chance to be the starter in 2022.

According to Schefter, one source said the Panthers "know Sam is out for the season", leading to the Panthers giving the contract they did to Newton, which includes incentives for playoff wins. He also has a chance to grab hold of the Panthers' starting QB job in 2022. PJ Walker will start today against the Cardinals while Newton gets up to speed, potentially making his official return to the Panthers' lineup next week against his former coach, Ron Rivera, and the Washington Football Team.

The right shoulder injury will most likely lead to Darnold missing several weeks. Walker, his backup, will step in. Some who follow the team were saying it was time for the Panthers to bench Darnold. However, they also admitted Walker is likely not the answer either. At this point, Walker could be showcasing for the rest of this season even when Darnold is able to return. Walker is worth grabbing in deeper, two-QB and superflex leagues.

Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold was listed as questionable because of a right shoulder injury heading into Sunday’s loss to the Patriots and the shoulder continues to be a problem on Monday.

Head coach Matt Rhule said that Darnold went for an MRI on his shoulder after reporting soreness on Monday morning.

We reported an ESPN opinion story that feels the team should bench Darnold in favor of Walker, so this could end up being the case whether the team wants to call it a benching or not. Rhule said in this story they are going to watch film and evaluate before making any decisions on Darnold. Now they will also wait for MRI results. The Panthers have a tough test against the Cardinals in Week 10.

It’s time for Carolina Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold to be benched -- permanently.

For the past five weeks, Darnold could fall back on the excuse of not having his security blanket, Christian McCaffrey, when making mistakes that cost Carolina chances to win.

But even with the running back’s return for Sunday’s 24-6 loss to the New England Patriots (5-4), Darnold continued to make the same mistakes that plagued him for three years with the New York Jets and five of the past six games with Carolina (4-5).

Darnold threw three interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown, when he missed a wide-open player. That gives him 10 interceptions in the past six games, five of them losses, the story said. While this is just one opinion, and despite the story's headline, the piece did point out Walker is prone to mistakes as well, and those mistakes have kept him from being more of a factor by now. Those in deeper superflex leagues maybe want to put a claim in for for Walker if he's on your wire.

After missing the previous three weeks, it appears as if Golladay will join Kadarius Toney as Daniel Jones top targets against the Oakland Raiders.

Golladay will be a risky play following three missed appearances but with Sterling Sheppard out there will be open targets to be vacuumed up by the Giants wide receiver. His status will take attention off Kadarius Toney who remained of the injury report for the first time in several weeks.
