NFL Preseason DFS Picks: Thursday, Aug. 10

By popular demand, below is a breakdown of the top DFS picks in each of the seven games of the Thursday Week 1 Preseason DFS slate.

Redskins @ Ravens

For Baltimore, QB Ryan Mallett will reportedly play “extensively,” according to the Ravens’ website—perhaps even into the third quarter. WR Keenan Reynolds (a converted QB) will likely get a long look at WR after a good camp. At RB, Taquan Mizzell is an all-purpose threat who will also likely see extended time on the field as he battles for a roster spot now that Kenneth Dixon is shelved. Perhaps the team will give extended snaps to converted WR Vince Mayle at TE with a lot of the TE group banged up.

For Washington, these are exactly the type of games where discarded players like RB Matt Jones go off. Jones or Mack Brown will likely get all the work in the second half. Brown was the 2016 preseason rushing leader and may be a better bet. I’d expect QB Nate Sudfeld to get a longer look than Colt McCoy after a rough camp. The team may also want to see what it has in Rams castoff WR Brian Quick. TE Derek Carrier may get a lot of time with Niles Paul expected to start.

Saints @ Browns

For New Orleans, QB Garrett Grayson will likely get ample time on the field. WR Tommylee Lewis has flashed at times as a returner, so the team will likely want to see if he can give enough as a WR to justify a roster spot. RB Alvin Kamara is talented, but with a roster spot guaranteed, it may be versatile 2016 seventh-rounder Daniel Lasco who gets a longer look. Lasco has a 99th percentile Burst Score.

For Cleveland, the QB situation is tough to gauge. Is QB Brock Osweiler starting to prop up his trade value or because the team wants to get a good look at him as the starter? He’s a high-risk/high-reward play, but then again, so is everyone in preseason. I doubt Cody Kessler will play as much as first-rounder DeShone Kizer since the Browns know more about what they have in Kessler. TE Seth DeValve makes an interesting play, as first-stringer Randall Telfer and 2017 first-round pick David Njoku were a bit banged up in practice this week. 2016 fourth-round WR Ricardo Louis is 6-foot-2, 215 pounds with good measurables and would be my top WR play on Cleveland.
