Streaming Tight Ends: Week 3 Targets
So you missed out on a top tier TE, or purposely chose to wait until later rounds with the strategy of streaming the position weekly? You’ve come to the right place. It’s time to assess your lineup and see if the TE you drafted is worthy of getting the starting nod, or if you are better off grabbing someone off the waiver wire who has an above average matchup which can hopefully translate to TE1 production.
The goal is to roster a player that is going to return TE1 fantasy points and in Week 2, my three picks didn’t exactly pan out as I would have hoped. Eric Ebron posted a respectable 9.3 fantasy points, grabbing four of his seven targets for 53 yards. Broncos’ TE Virgil Green wasn’t as involved in the offense as expected, yet made the most of his opportunities catching all three of his targets for 46 yards and 7.60 fantasy points. I also recommended both of the Giants TEs thinking that against a porous Saints’ defense they would find success, and apparently that wasn’t the case.
After two eventful weeks of football, 4for4 streaming candidates are averaging 9.0 PPR fantasy points per game, which currently ranks as TE18. The optimal TE streamer has a combined 24.9 PPR fantasy points, enough for TE9 on the season thus far. On to Week 3 and a fresh batch of streaming targets that are ready to be plucked off the waiver wire and inserted directly into your lineups.
In order to provide advice that you can actually implement, candidates for streaming must be available in at least 40% of Yahoo fantasy leagues.
Dennis Pitta (BAL) @ JAX
Before the season started, the Ravens positional players were a murky mess and TE was certainly no exception. After just two games, it seems that Dennis Pitta is emerging as not only the TE1 in Baltimore’s offense, but the overall number one weapon as he leads the team in total targets with 16. Through Week 2, Pitta has 26.1 PPR fantasy points and is sitting as TE7 in the league.
Coupled with his production thus far, the Ravens get a juicy matchup against a Jaguar team that gives up the sixth most fantasy points to TEs. Last week, Jacksonville’s defense surrendered 10.5 points to Chargers’ TE Antonio Gates, which bodes well for a visit from Joe Flacco and company.
Another thing to take into consideration is Baltimore’s next few matchups. After the Jaguars, they get two home games versus soft defenses in Oakland and Washington, followed by a Week 6 road game versus the New York Giants, the second cushiest team according to aFPA, when it comes to TE points.
Pitta is currently available in 90% of Yahoo leagues, so get out there and snatch him before your league mate does.
