According to ESPN's Rob Demovsky, "everything [Mike McCarthy] has done and everything he has said indicates that the second-year pro will be the No. 1 back when the Green Bay Packers open the regular season on Sept. 9 against the Chicago Bears". Jamaal Williams has been previously mentioned by McCarthy as someone who could be "the guy".
With Aaron Jones suspended, it isn't a shock to hear this, but it is possible that Williams' tenure as the lead runner extends past the first couple of weeks of the season. The coaching staff was clearly impressed with Williams last year, and if he performs well early, he could have a stranglehold on the position for all of 2018. Williams is the No. 37 running back off the board right now in drafts. And he is our No. 25 ranked RB in PPR formats.
