Dead Weight Report: Week 6 Droppables
Whether they’ve made the starting lineup or have been hanging out on the bench, we all have players who’ve underperformed so far in 2019. Should you hang on to them for another week or cut them loose now?
In this weekly article, I comb through the weak and underwhelming performances to see who’s droppable in favor of some waiver wire magic. There are many variables in determining a player’s remaining worth, including their own production, offense, and health among others, and all will be taken into consideration when determining each week’s dead weight.
Darrel Williams, RB – Chiefs
Williams saw zero touches on Sunday night against the Colts. I know some of you paid decent FAAB for him a few weeks ago, but he’s clearly the third back behind LeSean McCoy and Damien Williams. He will most likely need another injury to see significant work in the Kansas City backfield. If you’re winning and are in a position to keep Williams then feel free to do so, but if you’re in need of some points now, it’s time to let Williams go in favor of running back upside.
Nelson Agholor, WR – Eagles
There are still 37% of Yahoo! players hanging on to the Eagles wideout, but you shouldn’t be. He is basically an afterthought to Alshon Jeffery and Zach Ertz, and will be even more so once DeSean Jackson returns from injury. He was a solid fill-in, but since Jeffery came back in Week 4, Agholor has posted just one catch for 20 yards on four targets. Say goodbye to the 26-year-old wideout and grab a receiver with greater immediate potential like Auden Tate or Mohamed Sanu.
Tyler Eifert, TE – Bengals
Eifert is rostered by 27% of fantasy managers and I’m guessing the majority picked him up last week based on his supposed juicy matchup. That did not go as planned and things probably won’t pick up for the 29-year-old tight end moving forward. Eifert has just one score so far in 2019 and is averaging just 4.2 targets per contest. While tight end is very thin, there are still better options on the waiver wire like Gerald Everett or Chris Herndon, who have a better chance at helping your roster this year.
DaeSean Hamilton, WR – Broncos
Denver finally got their first win, but Hamilton posted zero fantasy points in the victory. He’s seventh in the Broncos offense in overall PPR points with just 2.9 per contest and he shouldn’t hold a spot on anyone’s fantasy roster at this point. Do yourself and your team a favor by sending him to the waiver wire and replace him with a wideout who’s higher in his team’s pecking order.
Wayne Gallman, RB – Giants
Before you throw something, hear me out. Yes, you just paid a pretty penny for Gallman, but he suffered a concussion in Week 5 and could be out for their quick turnaround on Thursday night in New England. Plus, it looks like Saquon Barkley could be back soon which would negate any value Gallman has. Similar to Williams above, if you have the room to keep Gallman as a future handcuff that’s fine, but if you need the immediate help, send him packing.
