San Francisco outside linebacker Ahmad Brooks sustained a lacerated kidney during 49ers practice and will miss at least two weeks of training camp, the team announced Saturday evening.

The injury occurred a day earlier during a contact drill. Originally deemed a rib contusion, further evaluation revealed that Brooks suffered an internal trauma. The 49ers said Brooks would be re-evaluated in two weeks and did not put a timetable on when he might return to the field.

Brooks, 26, emerged as a pass-rushing threat last season, setting career highs with six sacks and four forced fumbles. The 49ers signed him to a two-year-contract extension in April.

He is the second 49ers linebacker to sustain a serious injury during training camp. Inside linebacker Scott McKillop is expected to be put on the season-ending injured reserve list after tearing an ACL and patellar tendon. McKillop landed awkwardly on his left leg after leaping to defend a pass Wednesday.
