Tennessee Titans defensive end Derrick Morgan is out for tonight’s game against the Seahawks, but said he hopes to be able to play in the second preseason game, on August 23 vs. Arizona.

There’s good reason to be skeptical, since the Titans are going to be especially careful with the 16th overall pick. Morgan re-injured his calf on the first day of training camp and hasn’t practiced since.

“I’d like to be back for the second preseason game,’’ Morgan said. “The first day I couldn’t hardly walk on it, now I am jogging and doing a lot of other stuff. So I am feeling a lot better.’’

Morgan will be in a new number when he does take the field again. He’s switching to either 90 or 91, which is currently being worn by defensive Jason Jones. Morgan gave up 96 to new Titan, Raheem Brock. Former Titans defensive end Jevon Kearse, the last defensive end taken in the first round of the draft, back in 1999, wore 90.

“I know he was a great player, and he was the 16th pick as well,’’ Morgan said. “But I am just trying to make a name for myself no matter what number it is.’
