There were two conspicuous no-shows to the Giants’ first on-field OTA of the offseason on Wednesday. And only one of them had a good explanation.
Nobody – not Tom Coughlin or Eli Manning or any other Giants player – expected Victor Cruz to show up as he continues to battle with the team over a long-term contract extension. But fellow wide receiver Hakeem Nicks was supposed to be in uniform and on the field, working with “limitations” according to Coughlin.
Instead, the receiver pulled a stunning disappearing act, with absolutely no explanation.
“I don’t know,” Coughlin said, when asked why Nicks wasn’t at the practice facility. “He should be here . . . I expect everybody here. We’re trying to get our team better.”
There are mixed reports about why Nicks missed practice. He may or may not be upset about his contract. Stay tuned.
