Scouting report

GB RB Josh Jacobs - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Tennessee Titans
The gameplan with Malik Willis starting in Week 2 was simple; run the damn ball with Josh Jacobs. They would probably be foolish to move on from that idea, as the veteran accrued 151 yards on the ground. Jacobs is a high-floor RB2 who should see a ton of work in Week 3.

GB RB Josh Jacobs - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Indianapolis Colts
In a brand new offense that should produce far better than the Raiders of last year, Josh Jacobs offers an RB2 profile with RB1 upside in fantasy. He didn't look nearly as explosive last season, but he also held out of training camp and found himself on a team disintegrating from within. We can assume that the team will rely on him heavily with Malik Willis operating under center this week.

GB RB Josh Jacobs - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Philadelphia Eagles
In a brand new offense that should produce far better than the Raiders of last year, Josh Jacobs offers an RB2 profile with RB1 upside in fantasy. He didn't look nearly as explosive last season, but he also held out of training camp and found himself on a team disintegrating from within. This is a good spot to start off on the right foot in a matchup that should equate to a great fantasy environment.

GB RB Josh Jacobs - 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Josh Jacobs continued to prove that he could be a bellcow back last season, handling 285 opportunities (rushes + targets) just a year removed from toting the ball a massive 340 times. The Raiders offense, in general, was quite poor, but he now finds a far better home in Green Bay, where the Packers finished with the 12th-ranked scoring offense despite a slot start. Aaron Jones (now in Minnesota) was the RB27 in half-PPR scoring while dealing with a number of injuries but ended the year on a four-week stretch run in which he scored 14.62 PPG. That seems more in line with what Jacobs' ceiling outcome could look like.

Fantasy Downside
Jacobs has a lot of wear on those tires, accumulating 1,305 rush attempts since entering the league in 2019, the second-most in that span behind only Derrick Henry (1,529 attempts). The lack of tread may have started rearing its head last season, when he had the fewest amount of breakaway runs (five), lowest YPC (3.5), and lowest yards created after contact (2.35) of his career. A.J. Dillon is still on the roster and the team spent the 89th overall selection on RB MarShawn Lloyd in the NFL Draft.

2024 Bottom Line
In a brand new offense that should produce far better than the Raiders of last year, Josh Jacobs offers an RB2 profile with RB1 upside in fantasy. He didn't look nearly as explosive last season, but he also held out of training camp and found himself on a team disintegrating from within.

LV RB Josh Jacobs - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Indianapolis Colts

Josh Jacobs missed the last two weeks with an injury, but he was close to playing last week, so there’s optimism for him heading into Week 16. He’s been a quality fantasy back this year, when healthy, despite the up-and-down struggles for the Raiders in general.

If he returns this week, Jacobs will face a Colts defense that ranks 31st in aFPA to opposing running backs. Expect the Raiders to lean heavily on the run game, and as long as he’s good to go, Jacobs should put up quality RB1 numbers. Start him, but be sure to have a backup plan in place in case he’s a late scratch.

LV RB Josh Jacobs - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Kansas City Chiefs

Josh Jacobs had 34 yards on 13 carries against the Vikings two weeks ago before leaving with a quad issue. Jacobs then missed the game against the Chargers last week. He’s questionable heading into this week’s tilt against the Chiefs. If he’s active, he’s worth considering as a RB2 option against a vulnerable Chiefs run defense that ranks 23rd in aFPA to opposing running backs. Make sure you have a backup plan in place, however, and be ready with a late substitution in case he’s inactive.

LV RB Josh Jacobs - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Minnesota Vikings

Josh Jacobs had a 63-yard touchdown run against the Chiefs before the bye last week that helped him to 110 yards rushing on the day. He also caught four balls for 15 receiving yards. Jacobs hasn’t put up big receiving numbers, but his 52 targets are nothing to scoff at. Jacobs is averaging 21.25 touches per game and has averaged 90.7 yards per game on the ground in the last four outings.

This week, Jacobs faces a Vikings defense that ranks third in aFPA to opposing running backs. Despite the tough matchup, Jacobs should get another 20-plus touches, making him a quality fantasy option. He has a high floor in every game he starts, so fantasy managers should keep him active as a solid RB1 again this week.
