Scouting report

by Brandon Niles

LV RB Josh Jacobs - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Pittsburgh Steelers

Josh Jacobs was held out of the end zone for the first time in four games last week against the Patriots, but he still finished with 110 yards on 22 carries and a pair of receptions. Jacobs has been super steady this season and has at least one touchdown in four of his last six outings.

This week, Jacobs faces a Steelers defense that ranks 12th in aFPA to opposing running backs. Expect another full workload for Jacobs and for RB1 numbers to follow. He’s one of the safer options in fantasy football, given his workload, and the Raiders will likely lean on him again in what could be a low-scoring affair. Start him.

LV RB Josh Jacobs - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. New England Patriots

Josh Jacobs was held to 3.7 yards per carry last week against the Rams, but he still managed 99 yards and a touchdown, adding 15 more yards on a pair of receptions. Jacobs has a touchdown in seven of his last 10 games and he leads the league with 1,402 rushing yards on the season.

This week, keep Jacobs active against the Patriots. New England ranks third in aFPA to opposing running backs, but Jacobs gets so many touches that you can’t leave him out of lineups. Watch the injury report, as he’s been living on questionable status for the past few weeks, but we expect him to play and to be a top-five option once again. Start him.

LV RB Josh Jacobs - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Los Angeles Rams

Josh Jacobs was a game time decision again last week, but he played anyway and put up another very good fantasy line. In a great win against the division-rival Chargers, he rushed 26 times for 144 yards and his 10th touchdown of the season. Jacobs also caught two passes, giving him 42 receptions on the year. He’s been a complete workhorse for the Raiders and a fantasy gem.

This week, Jacobs faces a Rams defense that ranks 10th in aFPA to opposing running backs. Jacobs has been so stellar and his workload so significant that he’s a must-start regardless of matchup. With the Rams beat up on both sides of the ball and Jacobs’ production recently, we have him ranked as an elite option in all league formats. Start him.

LV RB Josh Jacobs - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs. Los Angeles Chargers

Josh Jacobs went nuclear last week against the Seahawks, rushing for 229 yards and a pair of touchdowns, including an 86-yard walk-off score to win the game in overtime. Jacobs also added 74 yards on six receptions, and he now has 40 catches for 325 yards on the season. He’s been nothing short of spectacular for the Raiders this year.

Jacobs has a phenomenal matchup this week against the Chargers, who rank 31st in aFPA to opposing running backs. He’s dealing with a calf strain that will likely keep him from practicing, but that was also the case a week ago. Keep an eye on the injury report, but if he’s active, he’s a must-start and an elite fantasy option in all formats.

LV RB Josh Jacobs - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Seattle Seahawks

Josh Jacobs had a nice outing against the Broncos last week, rushing for 109 yards on 24 carries and adding three receptions and 51 yards in the passing game. Jacobs is averaging 21.7 touches per game this season and has 34 receptions, giving him one of the highest floors of any running back in the league on a week-to-week basis.

Jacobs should thrive this week against a Seahawks defense that ranks 24th in aFPA to opposing running backs. With Jacobs’ workload and consistent production this season, he’s a must-start in all league formats. The matchup is just icing on the cake.

LV RB Josh Jacobs - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Denver Broncos

Josh Jacobs had a nice game in a loss to the Colts last week, gaining 106 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown on 21 carries and six receptions. He had a season-high eight targets, which is encouraging to see, and it was his seventh trip to the end zone on the year.

This week, Jacobs has a tough matchup against the Broncos, who rank fourth in aFPA to opposing running backs. His workload makes him a must-start, but temper expectations in what could be a low-scoring affair. Still, keep him active and we have him ranked just inside our top-10 running backs this week.

LV RB Josh Jacobs - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 vs. Indianapolis Colts

Josh Jacobs has cooled off the past couple of weeks compared to his blistering run from Weeks 4 through 7. He’s still fourth in the league in rushing yards, however, and he has a solid 25 receptions for 172 receiving yards as well.

This week, Jacobs faces a Colts defense that ranks 12th in aFPA to opposing running backs. The Colts are in a downward spiral right now and are struggling heavily on offense, so game script should lean in Jacobs’ favor. With his workload, he’s worth starting every game and we have him ranked as a solid RB1 in Week 10.
