Scouting report

LV RB Josh Jacobs - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at Jacksonville Jaguars

Josh Jacobs was held to just 43 yards on 10 carries last week, adding two reception and 11 receiving yards to his total. He was largely affected by game script, as the Raiders got down early and had to abandon the run game as they were shut out by the Saints. Expect that to be an anomaly for Jacobs, and for better production to follow.

This week, Jacobs faces a Jaguars defense that ranks 27th in aFPA to opposing running backs. Jacobs should thrive in a great matchup against a struggling offense. The game should be closer, allowing the Raiders to use Jacobs more, and not have to abandon the run this week. Start Jacobs as a top-five fantasy back this week.

LV RB Josh Jacobs - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 at New Orleans Saints

Josh Jacobs had a monster game last week against the Texans, rushing for 143 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries. He has at least 20 touches in four out of six games this year and has even been active in the passing game with 20 receptions on 22 targets. He’s been a true workhorse for the Las Vegas offense.

This week, Jacobs faces a historically good Saints run defense, but one that has struggled in 2022. They rank 21st in aFPA to opposing running backs and Eno Benjamin carved them up last week. Jacobs’ workload and his ability to find the end zone make him a must-start every week and we have him inside our top-five running back options for Week 8.

LV RB Josh Jacobs - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs. Houston Texans

Josh Jacobs had a great game against the Chiefs before the bye last week, rushing for 154 yards and a touchdown. He also added five catches and 39 receiving yards. While the Chiefs still won the game, the Raiders nearly pulled it off, largely because Kansas City had no answer for Jacobs. He has two straight games with over 100 yards on the ground now, and he has at least 11 touches in every outing this season.

This week, Jacobs faces a Texans defense that ranks 31st in aFPA to opposing running backs. If the Raiders can even slow down the Houston offense, Jacobs should see a ton of work and have plenty of room to operate. He’s a must-start in all leagues.

LV RB Josh Jacobs - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Kansas City Chiefs

Josh Jacobs had a great game last week against the Broncos. The Raiders relied on him for 28 carries and five receptions, and he delivered 175 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns. It was a good division win for the team, and Jacobs was a major part of it.

This week, Jacobs faces a Chiefs defense that ranks 28th in aFPA to opposing running backs. While they shut down the Tampa Bay running game last week – six total attempts for three yards – they did allow 12 catches, 107 yards, and a touchdown receiving to the duo of Leonard Fournette and Rachaad White. Expect another busy day for Jacobs, and we have him ranked as a solid RB2 option in all leagues.

LV RB Josh Jacobs - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Denver Broncos

Josh Jacobs was questionable going into the game last week against the Titans, but ended up with 97 yards on 13 carries and five receptions. Jacobs has been underappreciated, but he’s clearly the primary cog in this rushing attack. He’s out-snapped Brandon Bolden 128 to 41 so far this year, and it doesn’t seem as though this will change any time soon.

This week, Jacobs faces a Broncos defense that ranks seventh in aFPA to opposing running backs. His volume should make him a solid enough fantasy option, but temper expectations in what could be a low-scoring affair. We have him ranked as a low-end RB2 option, and consider him a high-floor plug-and-play fantasy back every week.

LV RB Josh Jacobs - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Tennessee Titans

Josh Jacobs hasn’t found the end zone yet this season and has a modest 154 yards from scrimmage through two weeks. However, Jacobs has 29 rushing attempts, compared to just four for the team’s other running backs. With Josh McDaniels coming over from the New England way of doing things, it’s great to see this backfield is not a timeshare, and that Jacobs is the guy.

This week, Jacobs should have an easier time against a struggling Titans defense. Tennessee allowed the Bills’ trio of running backs to rush for 89 yards on 20 attempts on Monday night, and they got destroyed by Saquon Barkley in Week 1. Jacobs should get a full slate of touches and have plenty of room to operate this week. Start him as a quality RB2 option.

LV RB Josh Jacobs - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Arizona Cardinals

Josh Jacobs gained 57 yards on 10 carries, adding a 16-yard reception to his total. While 10 carries aren’t super exciting, he did get all but three of the team’s rushing attempts. That’s a good sign after an offseason of speculation that this would be a true committee. In a closer game, I’d expect Jacobs to get more work.

Last week, the Cardinals allowed two touchdown receptions to Clyde Edwards-Helaire, and also allowed a combined 126 yards on 23 attempts to the Chiefs’ trio of running backs. There should be room to run if Jacobs gets a little larger workload. We have Jacobs ranked as a low-end RB2 option and he remains a high-floor starter for fantasy managers.
