The Training Room: Week 17 Injury Updates
Congrats to all the fantasy owners who can officially call themselves a champion! For those of you are plugging along and still have Week 17 to take the championship belt, let's discuss some of the Week 17 injuries heading into the final week of the regular season!
Player | Position | Team | Injury | Timetable For Recovery | Potential Replacement | Comments |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Antonio Brown | WR | Steelers | Sprained Knee | DOUBTFUL FOR WEEK 17 | Juju Smith-Schuster | Brown has not practiced at all this week and there hasn't been much information available to determine exactly what type of knee injury he is dealing with. The injury must be serious enough to threaten his availability in a must win game for the Steelers. |
Davante Adams | WR | Packers | Sprained Knee | Game Time Decision for Week 17 | Equanimeous St. Brown | Adams didn't practice all week, and although he has the potential to set Packer records, the Packers aren't playing for the playoffs which doesn't really make sense for Adams to push it. He'll be less than 100% and the fact that he hasn't practiced all week could indicate that his knee is really bothering him. The Packers play at 1pm against the Lions so we'll find out early whether or not he'll be available for your lineups. |
James Conner | RB | Steelers | High Ankle Sprain | Questionable for Week 17 | Jaylen Samuels | Conner has practiced in full all week, and although he's listed questionable, the expectation is that he will be back in a must win game for the Steelers. The Steelers will likely scale his volume back some, but with their season on the line, Conner should be used as he normally has. |
Spencer Ware | RB | Chiefs | Strained Hamstring | Questionable for Week 17 | Damien Williams | Ware practiced fully all week and is expected to return in Week 17. That is bad news for Damien Williams as he was putting up big fantasy numbers in Ware's absence. It'll be hard to determine what the workload split will be between the two, but if you have Ware he could still be a solid option although we'd prefer Williams at this point. |
Eric Ebron | TE | Colts | Concussion | Expected to play Week 17 | Mo Allie-Cox | Ebron was a full participant on Friday and although is listed questionable for Sunday night's game, the expectation is that he will play. Ebron will be a great option in a must win game for the Colts. |
Leonard Fournette | RB | Jaguars | Sprained Ankle | DOUBTFUL FOR WEEK 17 | Carlos Hyde | The Jaguars aren't playing for anything, so they will sit Fournette to not risk any further aggravation to the ankle or sustaining another injury. |
Todd Gurley | RB | Rams | Sprained Knee | RULED OUT FOR WEEK 17 | C.J. Anderson | Gurley will sit another week to get his knee healthy for the playoffs. C.J. Anderson came up big in his absence last week and should be another solid play this week. |
John Brown | WR | Ravens | Strained Hamstring | Questionable for Week 17 | Michael Crabtree, Willie Snead | Brown was a full participant on Friday, and although he is questionable for Week 17, he's expected to play. There is some risk with Brown as an in-game aggravation is possible, especially for a speed receiver, but he'll give it a go in a must win game against the Browns. |
Vernon Davis | TE | Redskins | Concussion | DOUBTFUL FOR WEEK 17 | Jeremy Sprinkle | Davis is still in the concussion protocol and doesn't look to clear it in time to play against the Eagles. The Redskins barely have any offensive weapons heading into Week 17, so I'd avoid any skilled player for the Redskins at this point. |
Allen Robinson | WR | Bears | Rib Injury | DOUBTFUL FOR WEEK 17 | Taylor Gabriel, Anthony MIller | Robinson will get an extra week to rest up the rib injury he's been dealing with as the Bears plan to sit him for Week 17. If this was a must win game, there's a good chance Robinson plays, but there isn't a ton the Bears can do to advance their playoff seeding other than hoping the 49ers beat the Rams which isn't likely. |
Demaryius Thomas | WR | Texans | Torn Achilles | Out For Season | DeAndre Carter | This is brutal for Thomas, who was brought in by the Texans to help with depth and make a deep playoff run. The health of Keke Coutee becomes even more important now with Thomas out for the season, and he'll likely struggle to get healthy for the majority of next season as well. |
Jermaine Kearse | WR | Jets | Achilles Injury | Out For Season | Robby Anderson | Kearse suffered what appears to be an achilles injury as well, although the Jets are doing more testing to determine the extent of the issue. Regardless the injury will sideline him for the remaining game and potentially much longer. |
Marcus Mariota | QB | Titans | Stinger | Game Time Decision | Blaine Gabbert | Mariota was able to practice later in the week, but he'll still need to see how he feels prior to Sunday's must win game against the Colts. Mariota will clearly be less than 100%, but I can't see him missing this game to potentially get the Titans into the playoffs. |
Dante Pettis | WR | 49ers | Sprained MCL | Out for season | Marquise Goodwin, Kendrick Bourne | Pettis suffered the injury in the 2nd quarter and did not return. The injury will end his season, but will make a full recovery |
