Spencer Shrader, already filling in for the injured Harrison Butker, is set to miss Tuesday’s practice with a hamstring injury.

That’s part of why the club signed Matthew Wright to its practice squad.

The Chiefs play on Friday against the Raiders so it's a situation to monitor if you were counting on Shrader this week. Shrader has made 3-of-3 field goals and 6-of-6 extra points in the last two games, the story pointed out.

Those who saw Butker hit your waiver wire last week and grabbed him this week may have to stash him or come up with another plan. Reid stopped short of saying it's a high ankle sprain, but did mention there is still some swelling that needs to go down. Ammendola would get the kicking duties again if Butker can't go in Week 3. Owners will at least have some notice as Butker and the Chiefs play an early Sunday game at Indy.

The kicking duties will fall on Ammendola on Thursday night. He was recently called up from the team's practice squad. Those in a bind should find Ammendola to be a nice fill-in at kicker if needed.

After his placement on the COVID reserve list, along with many others, Butker is among the group of players for whom they’ll need to “wait and see” concerning their availability after mid-week testing.

On Monday, Butker was among the newer players added to the list, including cornerback Charvarius Ward and tight end Travis Kelce. The Chiefs parked kicker Cairo Santos during the preseason because of a groin injury, and now they’re going to be without him for at least eight weeks.

The team announced they had placed Santos on injured reserve, and signed rookie Harrison Butker off the Panthers practice squad.

Butker was actually on the Panthers 53-man roster to start the season, while the waited to see if they could swing a trade for either him or Graham Gano. The seventh-round pick from Georgia Tech has a strong leg and nearly unseated Gano.
