Barring an unexpected obstacle, Leon Washington be in Jets camp on time, awaiting his big pay day. Two-a-days start Friday.
Washington's agent, Alvin Keels, had a face-to-face meeting yesterday with GM Mike Tannenbaum, hoping to hammer out a contract before camp starts at upstate SUNY-Cortland. Washington has been threatening to hold out, which would cost him about $17,000 in mandatory daily fines. The two sides have made enough progress in recent days that a long-term deal appears likely in the coming days, sources said Wednesday night.
