By Wednesday afternoon, Kurt Warner was feeling much better. The doctors found nothing wrong with his eyes. And yet he's still uncertain. He was just voted the NFL's best role model by his peers, edging the Colts' Peyton Manning. He feels a sense of responsibility toward this issue of concussions, to his seven children and beyond.
"I think it's going to take some key people to stand up for the issue, to do the right thing, to protect themselves for the long haul," Warner said.
At age 38, Warner hasn't noticed the game growing more dangerous over time, only that he's "been banged up a lot over the last few years." He doesn't want to rob his family down the road to serve his short-term desires, or ours. In his quest to be intelligent and careful about these strange symptoms, he also knows he is fighting a powerful culture, and a warrior's code.
