Terez Paylor: Lions believe Amendola can fill Tate's "security blanket" role
Among his notes from his visit to Lions' training camp, Terez Paylor of Yahoo Sports reports the Lions think free-agent acquisition WR Danny Amendola can fill the role of "security blanket" left by former Lions WR Golden Tate.
The Lions gave Amendola a guaranteed $4.5 million salary this season, so they seem to have some sort of plan for the former Patriot and Dolphin. Injuries have been the biggest issue with Amendola throughout his career, but otherwise, he has certainly been a viable receiver, even if he seemed to disappear while in Miami. It's not out of the realm of possibility for Amendola to compete for the second-most targets among the wide receivers with Marvin Jones, especially on third down. Kenny Golladay should see the lion's share among the receivers, with RB Kerryon Johnson also expected to contribute often in the passing game. Amendola is essentially a free lottery ticket in drafts right now and is currently our No. 83 WR in PPR formats
