Mark Ingram’s role is intact as the Saints’ leading runner and every-down back. Nothing has changed in that department. And he has looked fine when he’s touched the ball (21 carries for 88 yards, six catches for 46 yards, zero touchdowns).
The more valid concern is that the Saints have always been quick to abandon the run. And that has definitely been the case so far this year, even in two close games.
The Saints’ 35 rushing attempts rank 31st in the NFL. They only ran the ball three times in the second half of their 16-13 loss to the New York Giants on Sunday. HC Sean Payton said in the story that they would like more balance than that, despite being a pass-first team. So, owners can at least hold out hope there are better days ahead for Ingram.
