The Training Room: Week 13 Injury Recap
Derek Carr, QB NO
Injury: Concussion, Shoulder, Back, Wrist
Projected Timetable: TBD
Initial Thoughts:
Carr has been banged up week after week yet continues to somehow trot out there for the next week’s game. There remains an argument that Jameis Winston is actually better for the Saints offense overall, but time will tell who they roll with into week 14. Monitor Carr’s status moving forward.
Kenny Pickett, QB PIT
Injury: Ankle
Projected Timetable: Week 15-17
Initial Thoughts:
Unable to return to the game after being unable to place much weight on his foot, this may turn into a multi-week absence placing Mitch Trubisky at the helm for a few weeks. In fact, it was just reported that he will be undergoing a procedure on his ankle that will keep him out for 2-4 weeks, likely an arthroscopic cleanup.
Rhamondre Stevenson, RB NE
Injury: Right High Ankle
Projected Timetable: Week 16-17
Initial Thoughts:
The good news is that X-rays did not reveal a fracture, but he is not out of the woods yet. I am anticipating an MRI revealing a high ankle sprain and missing several weeks, which puts his fantasy playoff status in jeopardy.
Zach Charbonnet, RB SEA
Injury: Knee Swelling
Projected Timetable: Week 15-16
Initial Thoughts:
Charbonnet was knocked out of the Thursday night game with a knee injury that reportedly swelled up a good amount post-game. This typically indicates an injury along the lines of a ligament sprain or meniscus pathology, but very little has been reported on the true details. For now, I would anticipate him missing the next game, which could put Seattle in a difficult situation if Kenneth Walker is not ready to return just yet. Monitor this situation, but do not expect much detail from Pete Carroll.
Derrick Henry, RB TEN
Injury: Concussion
Projected Timetable: Week 14-15
Initial Thoughts:
He was removed from the game to be evaluated for a concussion, but there has been no word on if he officially suffered one. Monitor his status on whether he enters protocol or not. If so, Tyjae Spears would be a very intriguing pickup entering Week 14.
D'Andre Swift, RB PHI
Injury: Chest/Ribs
Projected Timetable: Week 14
Initial Thoughts:
He took a brutal hit to the chest and ribs but was able to walk off under his own power. This likely does not limit him going into Week 14.
Brian Robinson, RB WAS
Injury: Hamstring
Projected Timetable: Week 15-17
Initial Thoughts:
He was knocked out of the game and eventually ruled out with a hamstring strain, which is typically a sign of a higher grade and likely a multi-week absence. Washington has their bye week in Week 14, but monitor for expectations on weeks missed. Antonio Gibson could be a decent grab if available going into fantasy playoffs.
Tank Dell, WR HOU
Injury: Left Fibula Fracture
Projected Timetable: Season-Ending
Initial Thoughts:
In possibly the worst news of the week, Dell has suffered a fractured fibula and will miss the remainder of the season. He should be full-go for the 2024 season within 6 to 8 months, similar to Tony Pollard’s timetable this past year. In theory, he should not lose explosiveness entering next season, similar to Jaylen Waddle’s prior situation.
Amari Cooper, WR CLE
Injury: Concussion Screening
Projected Timetable: Week 14-15
Initial Thoughts:
Unfortunately, Cooper has been ruled out of the game with a concussion and will enter protocol. He will need to clear all stages of the protocol to play in Week 14, though most players have missed at least one game.
Puka Nacua, WR LAR
Injury: Ribs
Projected Timetable: Week 14
Initial Thoughts:
The good news is that he was able to return to the game after entering the locker room and missing several drives. He likely received an injection in order to keep playing. Nacua was moving well on his last few touches, but hopefully, the ribs do not swell up and become more painful or limiting entering Week 14. Monitor his status.
Marquise Brown, WR ARI
Injury: Heel
Projected Timetable: Week 15
Initial Thoughts:
While attempting to play through the heel injury for the last two weeks, this game seemed to limit him the most, and may have re-aggravated the injury. The good news is that Arizona’s bye week is Week 14, so he will have a good chance to get back to full health and return to fantasy viability in Week 15 for playoffs.
Christian Watson, WR GB
Injury: Hamstring
Projected Timetable: Week 15-17
Initial Thoughts:
Yet another hamstring mechanism for Watson, this time pulling up and dropping straight to the ground. It reminds me of Diontae Johnson’s, which cost him five weeks including a bye week. I do anticipate this hamstring injury to cost Watson multiple weeks, especially since this is not his first incident and long-standing history of hamstring strains. Be prepared to be without him for most of the fantasy playoffs.
Tyler Higbee, TE LAR
Injury: Concussion
Projected Timetable: Week 14-15
Initial Thoughts:
Higbee is being evaluated for a concussion. If he enters protocol, he will be required to clear all stages of the protocol in order to return next week.
