Fantasy Football Week 6 Injury Report: Concussed and Hamstrung
Jordan Mason, RB San Francisco 49ers
Injury: Left AC Sprain
Projected Timetable: Week 7
Initial Thoughts:
Reports indicate that the sprain is mild, but it was clearly too painful for Mason to continue to play on Thursday night after he subbed himself out on his last touch without absorbing any contact. He is a tough back so he may be able to push through the pain, but I would assume Isaac Guerendo will be one of the top waiver wire claims this week. Christian McCaffrey is trending towards a Week 10 return. I think Mason has a good chance to play week 7 with risk. Update: Mason is set to play Week 7, though was still in a non-contact jersey on Friday. The team was likely being cautious with any excessive impact. I think the most important factor is that Mason has not absorbed contact in practice to his left shoulder, so there's no telling how he's going to respond to actual in-game contact, leaving room for a lot of reinjury risk or pain levels that knock him out of the game again. Exercise caution on Mason for week 7.
Travis Etienne, RB Jacksonville Jaguars
Injury: Hamstring Strain
Projected Timetable: Week 7-8
Initial Thoughts:
The average time missed is close to 2 weeks for running backs. This may serve as a good opportunity for the Jaguars to rest him and let his shoulder injury heal close to 100%. Stash D'Ernest Johnson took a good chunk of the passing downs ahead of Tank Bigsby after Etienne was ruled out. Update: Etienne was a LPx3 all week and has a chance to play, but I lean towards him missing one game.
Jerome Ford, RB Cleveland Browns
Injury: Hamstring Strain
Projected Timetable: 2-3 Weeks
Initial Thoughts:
He was ruled out for the remainder of the game. The average time missed is close to 2 weeks for running backs. Notably, Nick Chubb is set to return in Week 7. I'm anticipating Ford missing multiple games. Nick Chubb expectations should be an eased-in amount of snaps, probably close to 40-50%, with key rush attempts in goal line situations and short down yardage. If you play Chubb on Sunday as a flex play, you're likely relying on him scoring a touchdown to help you win this week. Low floor risk.
Tyjae Spears, RB Tennessee Titans
Injury: Hamstring Strain
Projected Timetable: 2-3 Weeks
Initial Thoughts:
The average time missed is close to 2 weeks for running backs. He has been dealing with multiple injuries now this season. Anticipate another large workload for Tony Pollard next week, with Spears missing a few weeks.
Chris Olave, WR New Orleans Saints
Injury: Concussion
Projected Timetable: 1-2 weeks
Initial Thoughts:
The average missed time for wide receivers is 1 game, so plan to be without Olave for week 7. Bub Means has absorbed the majority of the routes run and targets.
Mike Evans, WR Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Injury: Hamstring
Projected Timetable: Week 7-8
Initial Thoughts:
His injury was never disclosed but he continued to go on then off the field and have discussions with trainers. Monitor his practice status this week but it does not seem like something that will cost him time. Update: turns out Evans injury was a hamstring strain that forced him in and out of the lineup. He was spotted working off to the side with trainers on Thursday and Friday, but the team remains optimistic that he can play. Monitor closely.
Marvin Harrison Jr, WR Arizona Cardinals
Injury: Concussion
Projected Timetable: Week 7
Initial Thoughts:
The average missed time for wide receivers is 1 game missed, however young wide receivers have missed slightly longer. Update: Harrison Jr seems to be bucking this trend and is trending towards clearing protocol in time to play week 7. There remains a higher reinjury or secondary concussion risk 7-10 days out from initial occurrence, so hopefully he can score fantasy points while avoiding recurrence.
DJ Moore, WR Chicago Bears
Injury: Eye/Face
Projected Timetable: returned to the game
Initial Thoughts:
He returned to the game without issue. This should not lead to issues, plus Chicago will be on bye.
Jayden Reed, WR Green Bay Packers
Injury: Ankle Sprain
Projected Timetable: Week 7
Initial Thoughts:
He was able to play through the remainder of the game and the mechanism appeared to be a mild low ankle sprain. I am not projecting Reed to miss time, but I will monitor his practice status this coming week. Update: he was LPx3 but removed fully from the injury report.
Dontayvion Wicks, WR Green Bay Packers
Injury: Shoulder Sprain
Projected Timetable: 2-3 Weeks
Initial Thoughts:
Wide receivers often miss at least one game with shoulder sprains that knock them out of a game. This could wind up being closer to 2 games missed. Monitor his practice status. Bump to Christian Watson. Update: he has been labeled as Week to Week.
Ladd McConkey, WR Los Angeles Chargers
Injury: Concussion Screening/Hip Injury
Projected Timetable: returned to the game
Initial Thoughts:
He returned to the game after being cleared from concussion protocol but continued to get checked by trainers throughout the game for his back injury. Monitor his practice status as this will likely be more painful and stiffen after the game.
Quentin Johnston, WR Los Angeles Chargers
Injury: Right Ankle Sprain
Projected Timetable: 1-2 Weeks
Initial Thoughts:
Johnston was limping throughout the remainder of the game but did not miss many snaps. His ankle is likely to stiffen and be painful after the game, but it may not cost him much time. Decent matchup next week against Arizona.
Darius Slayton, WR New York Giants
Injury: Concussion Screening
Projected Timetable: Returned to Game
Initial Thoughts:
Slayton was able to clear protocol and return to the game. Monitor his status in practice this week, but he should be able to play.
Dallas Goedert, TE Philadelphia Eagles
Injury: Hamstring Strain
Projected Timetable: 2-3 Weeks
Initial Thoughts:
Ruled out for the remainder of the game. The average missed time is 2 weeks for tight ends. Plan to be without Goedert for next week.
Trey McBride, TE Arizona Cardinals
Injury: Right Knee
Projected Timetable: returned to game
Initial Thoughts:
Concern for a PCL sprain after he tripped at his left foot and then slammed his right knee into the turf. He was limping and missed one snap before returning, but was notably limited and slowed in his routes run upon return. Monitor his status closely, but it appears to be minor.
