Carlos Hyde sent a collective jolt through the San Francisco 49ers' sideline and fan base when the running back went down in a heap without being touched in the second half of Sunday's 25-20 win over the Baltimore Ravens.
Hyde is dealing with a sore left foot and the way he collapsed made it look more serious.
"I just put too much pressure, too much weight on it," Hyde said. "It hurts when I put too much weight on it.
"It just shocked me how bad it hurt when I tried to put too much weight on it and I just went down."
Hyde, who was wearing an orthotic in his shoe, rushed for 55 yards on 21 carries and also caught two passes for five yards.
The team decided to just take it easy with Hyde and give other guys reps, HC Jim Tomsula said in the story. With Hyde's physical style and relatively small stature, concern is growing that he may not be able to withstand the constant pounding.
