Chargers agree to massive five-year deal with QB Justin Herbert

The Los Angeles Chargers and quarterback Justin Herbert have agreed to terms on a five-year, $262.5 million contract extension, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The deal comes a day before the Bolts open training camp and keeps Herbert, 25, under contract in L.A. through the 2029 season.

Fantasy Impact:

A huge deal for a fantastic fantasy and real life quarterback. This eradicates the headache from a possible problem in the future before it gets that far. Herbert is currently ranked as a top-7 fantasy QB heading into the 2023 season.

The Los Angeles Chargers picked up quarterback Justin Herbert’s fifth-year contract option Friday after he said Thursday he has “complete faith” in the team’s front office regarding his contract negotiations.

Fantasy Impact:

Herbert also said Thursday his left shoulder is “getting closer to 75 percent.” Herbert underwent surgery on his non-throwing shoulder in January and is expecting it to be a five- to six-month recovery process. Herbert and draft-mate Joe Burrow are next in line to get mega-contracts ala Jalen Hurts and Lamar Jackson.

While Herbert is active, WR Keenan Allen will not play against the Chargers, so get him out of your lineups. The rest of the Chargers inactives.

Justin Herbert gutted out a Week 2 performance after taking a brutal hit to the ribs but he may not be ready to go for Week 3 against the Jaguars.
