Still nothing concrete yet, but Chandler would be a fringe RB2/3 if Jones ends up missing Week 7. Otherwise, it'll be Jones there, with Chandler not logging quite enough usage to be fantasy-relevant.

Houston gets a 2026 conditional sixth-round pick in exchange for Akers and a 2026 conditional seventh-round pick. Of course, it’s a reunion for Akers and Minnesota, which also traded for him last season, the story pointed out. The worry now is maybe Jones, who was injured (hip) before the Vikings bye week, isn't fully healthy just yet, despite being able to practice so far this week. However, the Vikings, who sit at 5-0 so far this season, may just want more RB depth behind Jones and Chandler. As for the Texans, Mixon and Pierce look to be healthy again, and with the emergence of Ogunbowale over the last couple of weeks, Akers became expendable.

Vikings HC Kevin O'Connell says RB Aaron Jones "continues to be evaluated." Says all the information so far signals that they avoided major injury, but he's classified right now as "week to week."

We reported Monday that Jones avoided major injury and had a chance to be back after the team's Week 6 bye. While there was no talk of that in this post, he technically still has a chance to return in Week 7, which is an early game against the Lions. It's still a good idea to try and get Chandler if he's somehow still on your waiver wire.

From what Rapoport said in his report, the Vikings don't think Jones' hip injury will be a long-term issue. The good news is the team has a bye this week, and Rapoport indicated Jones could very well be back for Week 7. Chandler saw more work with Jones out and has been considered one of the better handcuff options coming into the season. Jones' owners may want to use the bye week to work on obtaining Chandler if they don't already own him.

Aaron Jones is expected to sign with the Vikings on a one-year deal for $7 million.

This is a nice snag for Minnesota, as Jones can operate in a one-two punch with Chandler. The offense as a whole is in a questionable spot without a quarterback, though. Jones and Chandler should be considered low-upside options in 2024.

Vikings are holding a walk-thru today. Didn't see RB Alexander Mattison during the portion open to reporters. Kevin O'Connell didn't rule out Mattison for Sunday's game but spoke more strongly today than he did Monday about the likelihood of Ty Chandler being their primary RB.

A follow-up quote was even more promising for Ty Chandler to continue getting a big load if Mattison misses;

"We're kind of building with the mindset that Ty is going to be a guy we're trying to get the ball to a lot, both in the run and the pass, and if we have Alex that's going to be a huge bonus for the depth and making sure we have our full group available."

Chandler should be an RB1 if he gets anything approaching the 26 (!!) opportunities he earned in Week 15.

Vikings RB Alexander Mattison (ankle) was briefly on the practice field today during the portion open to reporters, but it did not appear he was participating. Also did not see RT Brian O'Neill (ankle). Not looking good for either of them to play Saturday on a short week.

We should expect Ty Chandler to get a majority of the work here in Nick Mullens first start if Mattison ends up missing Saturday's game. That would make him an RB2 option for Week 15.

Alexander Mattison was on his way to his best game of the season (10 carries, 66 yards), but an ankle injury ended his day midway through the third quarter.

The story said there were no immediate updates on his status other than he had a "sprained ankle." Minnesota plays on Saturday in Week 15 so the timing is certainly not great here. If Mattison can't go, Chandler would likely see a bulk of the work and could be a decent play in a pinch.
