Bears QB Justin Fields (ribs) was officially ruled out for Thanksgiving Day at Detroit. WR Allen Robinson (hamstring) is doubtful and Marquise Goodwin (shoulder) is questionable.

Goodwin was a full participant if the Bears would have practiced, so expect him to play. No need to rush Robinson back against an inferior team and with his long-term availability in mind. Dalton was expected to start, so Fields' ruling is just clerical since he is not on IR.

No surprise here as the news was trending toward this once Fields got hurt. Fields is still getting tests done on his injured ribs and Rapoport had said earlier Monday the turnaround for Thanksgiving Thursday was likely going to come too fast to get Fields back on the field. The Bears and Dalton get a road game at Detroit and Dalton can at least be considered a streaming option for deeper, two-QB leagues if he's needed.

We reported earlier today from Ian Rapoport that Dalton could get the start on Thanksgiving against the Lions thanks to a quick turnaround this week. X-Rays on Fields' ribs were negative but he was getting more tests.

While it's mostly good news, Rapoport added Fields will get more tests and a CT scan, and a few times this year the results of scans have caused players to miss time. With a quick turnaround and a Thanksgiving Day game ahead this week, Rapoport speculates we may end up seeing Dalton start in Week 12. For owners, this is something to monitor.

Fields was much better in a win over the Lions in Week 4, so this is a bit surprising as one would assume the job now belongs to Fields. According to Grote, Nagy went on to say, "The next two days will tell us a lot in terms of where [Dalton is] at. We'll have an update for you on Wednesday."

Fields was a big disappointment in Week 3 and struggled to really get any kind of offense going. It's quite possible if Dalton is healthy the team will go back to him, as that's what they've said all along. Some who follow the team felt Fields just wasn't ready to start in the NFL. For those in deeper leagues or multi-QB leagues, it's a situation to monitor.

There are three possibilities with Justin Fields. 1. The Bears overrated him in their evaluations. 2. He’s not ready for the NFL. 3. The Bears are falling to sufficiently support him. A combination of at least two of the possibilities is undeniable.

The story said we didn’t learn much about Fields, other than he’s not able to overcome disaster all around him and that the Bears aren't a good team. Fields is dealing with a hand injury but the story pointed out the bigger concern is Fields state of mind at this point. Based on all of this, it's entirely possible the team does go back to Dalton when he's healthy.
