Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice will have surgery on Tuesday to determine the extent of the knee injury that he suffered eight days ago. Via multiple reports, he got some good news on Monday.

Via Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Rice might have avoided a torn ACL. He nevertheless needs to have an LCL repair.

As Rapoport characterizes it, Rice’s season “is expected to be over.” Separately, Rapoport says that Rice could miss “potentially three months” due to the LCL repair. That timeline would not end his season.

The news is starting to get a little more clear for Rice. Best case seems to be a return for the playoffs in three months. As the story said, Rice has eight felony accounts lurking. Florio went on to say that now that Rice will be sidelined due to injury, it makes sense to resolve the charges and take the suspension this year. While he would still lose his game checks, he would not lose the ability to play any more games than the injury will cause him to miss, the story pointed out.

There remains hope that Rashee Rice could return this season and be sidelined six to eight weeks, according to league sources, but nothing will be determined until early next week at the earliest. It is difficult to know how realistic it is that Rice could return this season, although the Chiefs have not given up hopes of that possibility yet.

The Chiefs will likely be in the market for another WR, but first want to know the status of Rice, which could come later today. The story said Rice will undergo a knee procedure, according to league sources. Schefter said the Chiefs were interested in DeAndre Hopkins before he signed with the Titans. Rapoport continues that "it's mild, though he is likely to miss some time," and it would "be a surprise" if we see him suit up in Week 5. It's another huge blow to the Chiefs offense as Rice was the main weapon through the first month of the season and the team already losing Hollywood Brown. Travis Kelce finally had a solid game and while he'll continue to see more targets, the Chiefs now really need someone else at receiver to step up, whether that's Xavier Worthy or Mecole Hardman or even JuJu Smith-Schuster. Rice will get an MRI but the news doesn't look good. Head coach Andy Reid even said during the game to CBS' Tracy Wolfson that the injury didn't look good.

The injury happened in the first quarter during a runback of a Patrick Mahomes interception. Mahomes went for a tackle and ended up hitting Rice's knee. Rice was carted off the field. Rice did not a catch a pass Sunday. The hope right now is that his knee injury is a minor one.

The Chiefs are placing WR Marquise "Hollywood" Brown on IR, and he will undergo surgery to repair his dislocated SC joint. After multiple imaging studies, it was determined that, although Hollywood felt better, his injury was not healing correctly. Without corrective surgery, he would risk a more serious long-term injury.

The surgery is scheduled for Monday with Dr. Peter Millett in Vail, CO, and the Chiefs will monitor his rehab progress throughout the season.

It's no lock he's back for Week 2, and with the Chiefs seemingly fine with their young group of receivers, it's possible Brown is held out again for Week 2. The original timetable was up to six weeks. Rice and Worthy will likely be the Chiefs top-two receivers.

On a conference call, NFL’s Jeff Miller day they are closely monitoring the situation for Chiefs WR Rashee Rice, saying they’ll follow the legal developments.

My read: With his legal situation not yet settled, Rice remains eligible to begin play this season.
