Team news: Miami Dolphins

Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was downgraded to doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Browns with a hip injury.

Tagovailoa is going to push to play but it’s looking like it will be Tyler Huntley going for the Dolphins in a must-win game. There is a chance, however, that Miami could be eliminated before even taking the field Sunday if both the Chargers and Broncos win on Saturday. Still, it’s yet another setback for Tagovailoa after his concussion earlier this season. Miami also elevated Skylar Thompson from the practice squad.

Dolphins WRs Tyreek Hill (wrist) and Jaylen Waddle (knee) are both questionable for Sunday vs. Cleveland.

Waddle feels like the more likely candidate to miss, but it's been reported that Tyreek has been playing through ailments through most of the season. Consider Hill a WR2 if he suits up.

McDaniel non-committal on whether Jaylen Waddle (knee) will practice this week: "I'm expecting to get everything from Waddle that he can do... I've [talked to] the trainer to make sure we protect him from himself. We will see how the week progresses. I don't know exactly what it will look like."

Waddle owners should probably not count on Waddle for Week 17, or at the very least have a backup plan. Waddle and the Dolphins play the Browns in the later window on Sunday so it could further complicate things for owners who were hoping to play him.

We're assuming Hill will be fine by kickoff, but it's definitely a situation worth keeping an eye on. He's currently projected as a WR2, with Jonnu Smith possibly absorbing even more work with Waddle unlikely to see the field.

Smith has basically been operating as the No. 2 pass-catcher for the Dolphins over the past couple of months, so this could end up pushing him into double-digit target rate, making him a top-5 option (if he wasn't already). Tyreek stays in the WR2 range, while the other ancillary options can be ignored.

Jaylen Waddle (knee) avoided major injury.

Waddle is officially day to day, and the injury is not considered to be season-ending. Waddle is still in question for this week, however, the post went on to say. Practice reports will be key this week so owners will want to monitor the situation. The Dolphins playoff chances took a big hit with a loss this past week, so there may not be a need to rush Waddle back in the lineup. The Dolphins play in the later window on Sunday at home against the 49ers.

The Dolphins held a walkthrough practice on Tuesday and wide receiver Tyreek Hill did not participate in it.

Hill was estimated as a limited participant on Monday due to the wrist injury that’s had him on the report in recent weeks, the story said. As the story also added, a return on Wednesday will likely leave Hill on track to play against the Packers on Thanksgiving, so owners will want to keep an eye on that.

Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill said Thursday he may undergo surgery on a wrist injury that limited him at practice last week, but any procedure wouldn't be until after the 2024 season ends.

Hill said he first injured his wrist in August, during a joint practice with the Washington Commanders. The injury worsened over the first nine weeks of the season, to a point where Hill was held out of the Dolphins' final two practices of Week 10 and carried a questionable tag into Miami's game against the Los Angeles Rams.

The Dolphins have a very winnable game this week against the Raiders, but we have to consider what the team, and Hill himself, will think about getting the surgery out of the way if they are eventually pushed out of playoff contention. Later in the article Hill mentioned, "It's going to get worse the more I play, but I got to [gut] it out for my team."

Hill is a WR1 this week, but his long-term view for the fantasy playoffs is a little murky right now.

Tyreek Hill said he has a torn ligament in the wrist but has been playing through it.

Hill told Salters the wrist really became an issue when he was arrested and taken to the ground by the police earlier this year. He added that the arrest "messed me up" but he wasn't going to let it stop him. For now, it looks like Hill will continue to play through the injury, but the Dolphins are just 3-6 on the season, so it's possible with another loss or two, Hill could get shut down to heal the injury and come back in 2025. Hill only had four targets in Week 10 against the Rams, catching three for just 16 yards, but he did have a touchdown. He also rushed twice for 11 yards.

The story added Lisa Salters of ESPN reported on Monday that Hill underwent an MRI that showed a torn ligament in his wrist. Hill noted that he was dealing with a wrist issue during training camp that was aggravated during his detainment by police before Miami’s season opener on Sept. 8.
