The Training Room: Week 16 Injury Recap
Trevor Lawrence, QB JAC
Injury: Right Shoulder
Projected Timetable: Week 17-18
Initial Thoughts:
After clearing concussion protocol within the week, Lawrence suffered a new shoulder injury while landing hard on his right side during a rush toward the sideline. Via video, it appeared to be a right AC sprain that was clearly painful any time he attempted to throw after the incident occurred. It may cost him some time, but monitor his status. His active game streak is at risk, so he may find a way to remain active.
Raheem Mostert, RB MIA
Injury: Left Knee
Projected Timetable: Week 17-18
Initial Thoughts:
Mostert took a hit that bent his left knee inwards which would be a typical MCL sprain mechanism, but he was able to return to the game and play fairly effectively. His knee may swell early this week but he has been taking multiple practices off as “vet rest” anyway. We likely will not know his Week 17 status until Friday or Saturday, but I am anticipating him playing in Week 17.
D.J. Moore, WR CHI
Injury: Right Ankle
Projected Timetable: Week 17-18
Initial Thoughts:
It appeared that Moore had suffered a high torque high ankle sprain on a hip drop tackle, but he was somehow able to tape up and return to the game. He was not very effective, but he told reporters that he is going to rehab and do everything he can to play in Week 17. Monitor his practice status and hope for a minimal production dip.
Jaylen Waddle, WR MIA
Injury: Eye
Projected Timetable: Week 17
Initial Thoughts:
Do not underestimate the impact of a corneal abrasion. These can significantly blur vision and cause immense pain if they are bad enough. If mild though, he should have no problem playing in Week 17. All the more reason for Waddle to step up his visor game.
Courtland Sutton, WR DEN
Injury: Concussion
Projected Timetable: TBD
Initial Thoughts:
Concussions remain highly unpredictable, some knocking players out for one week and others knocking players out for multiple weeks. Sutton will enter concussion protocol and will need to pass through all stages in order to play in Week 17.
Garrett Wilson, WR NYJ
Injury: Left Ankle
Projected Timetable: Week 17
Initial Thoughts:
After suffering an ankle sprain and limping off of the field early in the game, he was able to return to the game and performed well. The sprain appeared to be mild and I would not expect this to stop him from suiting up for Week 17, even on a short week Thursday night.
Dontayvion Wicks, WR GB
Injury: Chest
Projected Timetable: Week 17-18
Initial Thoughts:
Minimal details have surfaced on Wicks’ injury, but if this involves rib cartilage then his season is likely over since return would typically be closer to 3-4 weeks. If it is a minor bruise, there is a chance he can return for Week 17. Monitor his status throughout the week.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR SEA
Injury: Left Knee
Projected Timetable: Week 17
Initial Thoughts:
Those stadium walls are too close to the end zone. The young rookie ran out of the end zone trying to track a ball, slipped, and slammed his left knee directly into an unpadded section of the stadium wall. He limped for a while but was able to return to the game and produce. He likely suffered a bone bruise, but this should not stop him from suiting up for Week 17.
Jordan Addison, WR MIN
Injury: Ankle Sprain
Projected Timetable: NFL Playoffs/Season-Ending
Initial Thoughts:
After taking friendly fire in a brutal collision, it appeared that his ankle was rolled up on in a high ankle mechanism fashion. He limped into the locker room just before halftime and then was subsequently ruled out before the third quarter began. Consider his fantasy season over.
T.J. Hockenson, TE MIN
Injury: Knee
Projected Timetable: NFL Playoffs/Season-Ending
Initial Thoughts:
Via video, his injury appeared to be an MCL sprain mechanism with a slight hyperextension after getting hit low by a defender with his knee bending inwards. He limped off of the field, walked into the locker room, and was quickly ruled out. Consider his fantasy season over, which is a huge hit if you were relying on his TE production for the championship.
Cole Kmet, TE CHI
Injury: Knee
Projected Timetable: Season-Ending
Initial Thoughts:
Kmet’s knee injury would likely typically require a few weeks to return, but considering there are only two games left, consider his season over based on the information that we currently have.
