After losing RBs Christian McCaffrey, Jordan Mason and Elijah Mitchell to season-ending injuries, it now looks as if the 49ers will be without RB Isaac Guerendo for Sunday’s game vs. Miami. Guerendo is dealing with a hamstring injury and is unlikely to play, per source.

Sheesh. We're assuming Taylor will now be the next, next man up, but they also have Abanikanda, as well as Ke'Shawn Vaughn on the practice squad. Taylor should be considered somewhere in the RB3 range if Guerendo is out.

It’s a 6 week recovery time for CMC, the post went on to say. It's possible he could return if the Niners make a long playoff run, but for this fantasy season, McCaffrey is done. Sandler, in a separate post, mentioned that Mason will also go on IR with a high ankle sprain, leaving Guerendo as the assumed RB1. The Niners will have to make a move to bring in more running backs, but the team did trade up in the fourth round to pick Guerendo, so it's possible they give him a legit chance the rest of the season. He should be a popular pickup off the wire this week.

Reports say CMC is really planning to ramp up in order to be back for their Week 10 match at Tampa Bay. The bye week is certainly hitting at the right time and the team will be looking to see if he responds well to this week's hard work to simulate practice, the post added.

The Niners have a bye in Week 9 and we reported last week it was looking positive for CMC to return to the field for Week 10, which is an early Sunday game at the Buccaneers. Rapoport has said CMC has been ramping up and so far there have been no setbacks, and that continues to be a target date. It's possible CMC is heavily involved in the pass game with all the injuries to the Niners WRs up to this point.

Rapoport said CMC continues to ramp up. He's been running on flat ground and there is no reason to be pessimistic, and it's been all systems go up to this point, Rapoport said. It's good news for McCaffrey and a potential return. As far as fantasy goes, hopefully his owners are still alive for a playoff berth by the time we get to Nov. 10. It may not be fair to think CMC jumps right into his normal bell cow role his first game back. The team may opt to continue to use Mason, who has done a great job filling in. With the potential loss of Brandon Aiyuk, CMC owners shouldn't have much worry inserting him in lineups once he's back.

Reports said Mason's injury wasn't considered too serious, and it's a good sign he was back at practice, despite wearing the non-contact jersey. The Niners will host the Chiefs and what should be a fun game to watch in the later window of Sunday. If Mason can't go, look for Guerendo to pick up the slack after he carried 10 times for 99 yards in Week 6 after Mason left the game.

The 49ers said they expected to get a "better idea" on McCaffrey's status over the next few weeks. The team's plan was to ramp up his rehabilitation to "see how it responds." General manager John Lynch added that the team is aiming to "quiet down" the injury.

The story said Achilles tendinitis is described as "an overuse injury of the Achilles tendon, the band of tissue that connects calf muscles at the back of the lower leg to your heel bone," according to the Mayo Clinic. Some Achilles tendinitis can be treated at home, while more serious cases can lead to tendon tears that may require surgery. The story went on to say, until McCaffrey, the team and the medical specialists see how the area responds to more work, it's hard to make a call on when he will be back, if he does come back this season. NFL Media reported Sunday that McCaffrey should be back, at least, by early November, but the report of bilateral Achilles tendinitis could change things. For now, Mason remains the bellcow. He had 24 carries in Week 4 with Deebo Samuel getting two. Guerendo had a fumble on special teams and had just one carry in the game.

And to top it off, 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey is seeing a specialist in Germany regarding his Achilles tendinitis.

This doesn't sound good for CMC. Now owners can't help but wonder if McCaffrey will be back after missing his four games on IR. Mason has filled in well, gaining 5.2 yards per attempt with two touchdowns on the season. But at this point, with CMC seemingly a huge question mark, it may be time to pick up players like Guerendo and Taylor. Guerendo was the only other back to get carries in Week 3, running five times for 19 yards.
