Denver Post: All four of the Broncos's running backs —
Michael Pittman, Selvin Young, Ryan Torain and Andre Hall —
are listed as questionable for Sunday's game against Miami.
All-Pro CB Champ Bailey and WR Brandon Marshall are also
battling injuries.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Larry Johnson was suspended for the
team's Nov. 9 game against San Diego for violating the
league's personal conduct policy. Johnson —who was charged
with simple assault Monday — will also sit out Sunday's
game against Tampa Bay.

Indianapolis Star: Colts Two key offensive weapons RB
Joseph Addai and WR Reggie Wayne are listed as questionable
for Sunday night's game against New England. Addai
(hamstring) has missed the last two games; Wayne's streak
of 88 straight starts could be in danger.

New York Post: Giants Coach Tom Coughlin remains uncertain
as to who will handle kicking duties for Sunday's game
against Dallas. John Carney has done most of the kicking
over the last month, but Lawrence Tynes is also available.

Washington Post: Redskins WR Santana Moss missed Friday's
practice and is questionable for Monday night's game
against Pittsburgh with a strained hamstring. Veteran James Thrash or rookie Devin Thomas would start in place of Moss,
who leads the team with 42 catches.

Tampa tribune: Bucs RB Carnell "Cadillac" Williams has
begun working out with the scout team, but has yet to take
part in full-contract drills. Williams has been sidelined
since injuring his knee last season. There is a chance he
could be activated for the team's Nov. 16 game against the
Minnesota Vikings.

The Ravens announced Saturday that they have waived
quarterback Todd Bouman.

Buffalo News: Bills WR Josh Reed (ankle), DE Aaron Schobel
(foot) and OG Brad Butler (knee) will miss Sunday's game
against the New York Jets, leaving the club without three
starters.

East Valley Tribune: Cardinals TE Ben Patrick had a limited
practice, so he could be ready to go Sunday at St. Louis. The
Cardinals had neither tight end available at Carolina, a situation
that helped tilt their plan toward even more passing than usual.

4for4 reports: Lions TE Casey Fitzsimmons (ribs) will be a
scratch this weekend.

4for4 reports: Bucs WR Ike Hilliard (shoulder
questionable) did some work all week including Friday. He
should be available as needed.

ESPN: The Green Bay Packers signed first-year starting quarterback
Aaron Rodgers to a contract extension through the 2014 season on
Friday.

(ankle) is doubtful.

East Valley Tribune: Cardinals TE Leonard Pope, who has a
lingering ankle problem, did not practice Wednesday. He may be out

labeled as "questionable" but he did not practice this week
and is not someone to consider.

4for4 reports: Colts RB Dominic Rhodes (ankle) is expected
to be available this week.

with a concussion. He was limited at practice Wednesday,
Thursday and Friday. The concussion is a mild grade so he
could play this weekend.

reps Thursday and Friday. He's ready to play.

4for4 reports: Browns WR Donte' Stallworth (quadricep
questionable) was limited at practice Wednesday-Friday.
Many questions surround the brittle Stallworth this week,

Seattle Times: Seahawks Wide receiver Koren Robinson returned to
practice after sitting out Wednesday, which has been the standard-
operating procedure for the past few weeks for the receiver.

Tampa Tribune: Bucs Coach Jon Gruden did say he expected RB
Michael Bennett to play if Dunn can not go. Considering Tampa Bay
is playing Kansas City, which is 1-6, and the Bucs have a bye next
week, there is a strong possibility Gruden might rest Dunn for
important games down the stretch.

Wednesday but took reps Thursday. Rhodes should be able to backup
Addai this weekend.

Dallas Morning News: Quarterback Brad Johnson will make his third
straight start Sunday against Dallas' NFC East nemesis, the New
York Giants, Cowboys HC Wade Phillips announced Wednesday. There
was speculation that third-string quarterback Brooks Bollinger
would get the call after Dallas scored a combined 27 points in the
last two contests, without Pro Bowler Tony Romo, who has been
sidelined because a broken pinkie finger on his throwing hand.

Tampa Tribune: Bucs Coach Jon Gruden said RB Warrick Dunn, OL
Arron Sears and S Jermaine Phillips did not practice on Thursday.
Dunn sustained a back injury against Dallas last week and it's
starting to look questionable if he will play this week against
Kansas City. "I am one of these coaches who believes you got to
practice to play," Gruden said. "I don't want to discount how
important I think practice is, but we think he is going to be OK.
We'll let you know tomorrow. We got a number of guys who have been
idle and it reflects the way you play. It's a tough business,
especially when you don't practice. We think he's going to be OK,
but we'll let you know tomorrow." Meanwhile, Sears sustained a
concussion yesterday, but Gruden is optimistic he will play on
Sunday.

Boston Globe: RB Sammy Morris expressed frustration yesterday that
he is sidelined after gaining a career-high 138 yards against the
Broncos Oct. 20, but he indicated his knee injury will not
threaten the rest of his season. Morris also cleared up what
knocked him out of that game, indicating that the injury occurred
at the end of his final carry - a 29-yard jaunt over the left side
in the second quarter, when he was tackled by Broncos safety
Calvin Lowry. "Initially, I was pretty upset," Morris said
yesterday after speaking to a group of students about nutrition at
Plymouth South Elementary School. "Thankfully, I have my family,
friends, and teammates that are helping me shift focus from the
negative and look at the positive of coming back." Morris declined
to detail his injury or place a timetable on his return, instead
using the words often spoken by HC Belichick regarding injured
players.

Tampa Tribune: Bucs RB Warrick Dunn (back) did not practice today.
After practice, here is what Bucs Coach Jon Gruden said about
Dunn: "In hindsight, we probably shouldn't have allowed him to
play. We chose not to use him much, but he is such a warrior and
he has played this game for so long. He wasn't himself Sunday in
Dallas. That's a big part of our offense. He and Earnest have
split almost 220 touches right down the middle. It's a unique
combination that we have. We have concern about Warrick. We know
he is going to be OK, but boy, we miss him. That goes for some
others."

Kansas City Star: When Larry Johnson meets with NFL commissioner
Roger Goodell today in New York, the two will have a lot to talk
about. Johnson, the embattled Chiefs RB, found himself with
another court date when he was charged with simple assault Monday
for allegedly spitting a drink on a woman on Oct. 10. This follows
another recent charge of simple assault for an alleged shoving
incident in February involving another woman. It's unclear when
Johnson, 28, will be back on the field. Chiefs presidentGM Carl
Peterson indicated in a statement that Johnson would not play in
Sunday's game against Tampa Bay at Arrowhead Stadium. That would
be the third straight game Johnson has missed. The Chiefs made him
inactive the last two weeks for being late to practice and other
team obligations, saying he needed to focus on his personal
issues. Meanwhile, the NFL has been conducting its own
investigation into whether Johnson is in violation of its
personal-conduct policy.

Boston Globe: With RB Sammy Morris and Lamont Jordan (calf)
sidelined Sunday against the Rams, the Patriots had just three
healthy running backs: Kevin Faulk, Benjarvus Green-ellis, and
Heath Evans. Belichick did not reveal yesterday whether Morris or
Jordan would be ready for action Sunday at Indianapolis. Morris
wasn't surprised to see Faulk become the team's workhorse against
the Rams; Faulk played 44 of 62 snaps (not including kneel-downs),
and was on the receiving end of the winning 15-yard touchdown
pass.

Carroll County Times: The outlook isn't as bright for Ravens
return specialist Yamon Figurs (left knee contusion). Ray Rice and
Jim Leonhard filled in adeptly for Figurs the past two games.
"Yamon is iffy," Harbaugh said. "He's got a chance to be back
there. If Yamon is healthy, he's going to be returning for us in
some form or fashion, but we're kind of excited about Ray and
we're kind of excited about Jim." ... Harbaugh struck an
unconcerned stance about playing the next three games on the road.
"We don't have a message about the road," he said. "We've got a
great travel setup. We take a plane. We've got a nice hotel and
buses will be waiting for us. We're looking forward to the big
challenge."

Washington Post: Redskins HC Jim Zorn said receiver Santana Moss
sat out practice with a mild hamstring strain but is expected to
play, too. Kick returner Rock Cartwright sat out with a minor knee
strain, but is slated to play. HC Zorn said that he does not
expect the problem to be "enough to hold out " Moss, whom he
referred to as an indispensable cog in the offense. Running back
Clinton Portis, the league's leading rusher and the NFC's
Offensive Player of the Month for October, rested again with his
hip and ankle sore, but he is slated to carry a heavy load again
Sunday. The Redskins already know they will be without several
other players who missed practice today - corner Shawn Springs
(calf), end Jason Taylor (calf), tailback Ladell Betts (knee),
receiver Malcolm Kelly (knee).

Times Picayune: The Saints continued their fickle approach to
special teams Tuesday, releasing kicker Taylor Mehlhaff and punter
Ben Graham, according to league sources. No replacements have been
named, but the Saints have likely will use the bye week to
audition candidates. Mehlhaff, who was drafted by the Saints in
the sixth round of this year's draft, lasted just three games with
the team after he replaced injured and inconsistent veteran Martin Gramatica.

TSN: The Panthers signed kicker John Kasay to a four-year contract
extension on Wednesday, meaning that the last member of the club's
original expansion roster could play in Carolina through the 2012
season.

ESPN: Browns receiver Joe Jurevicius will be out for the
remainder of the 2008 season, a league source confirmed Wednesday.

Denver Post: Denver's other3 active RBs are suffering from some
sort of injury, whether it is Michael Pittman's bruised ribs that
will likely have him questionable for the Miami game or Selvin Young's sore groin that has kept him out of the past two games or
Andre Hall's sprained wrist suffered earlier this month. Now about
three months removed from the elbow injury and subsequent surgery,
Torain is the healthiest back Denver has. "It looks like that a
little bit," Torain said. "Everybody's got nicks and bruises that
we fight through."

through." And consider that Denver's offense, so potent through
the first three weeks of the season, is looking for a spark after
scoring fewer than 20 points in each of the past four games.
Torain remained in Denver during the bye week to continue working
out with strength and conditioning coach Rich Tuten. He said his
elbow feels "100 percent" better and that he was not limited in
practice on Monday. He still wears a protective brace on his left
arm in practices and will wear it in games as well. None of that
matters, though, as long as he's playing, he said. "I was used to
sitting out, so I coped with it well and now I'm back. The time
felt like it flew by," Torain said.

Pittsburgh Gazette: Santonio Holmes will return to start for the
Steelers Monday against the Redskins in Washington, coach Mike
Tomlin said today. Tomlin made Holmes inactive for Sunday's game
against the New York Giants after the wide receiver was charged
with marijuana possession last Thursday.

AP reports: The 49ers named Shaun Hill the team's starting
quarterback for its November 10th matchup against the Cardinals in
Arizona. Hill unseats J.t. O'sullivan, who started each of San
Francisco's first eight games as the club went 2-6. New 49ers head
coach Mike Singletary, who stepped in for the fired Mike Nolan
last Tuesday, made the announcement on Monday.

Detroit News: Lions TE Casey Fitzsimmons still hadn't slept
Monday, a day after suffering a painful rib-cage injury when he
took a knee to the midsection from teammate Alex Lewis on Santana Moss' 80-yard punt return for a touchdown Sunday. FitzSimmons said
there's a possible torn cartilage in his rib cage and he isn't
sure of his status for Sunday's game. "It hurts to breathe, it
hurts to lay, it hurts to sit, it hurts to walk. It hurts to do
everything."

Sacramento Bee: Mike Singletary spoke a lot today about Vernon Davis. And he spoke a lot of about cancers in the locker room and
how they can damage a team. But he was careful to separate the
two. "Vernon is not a problem," Singletary said. "Vernon is not a
problem guy. Vernon forgets sometimes that the team is more
important. ... You have to be able to separate the two. He is not
a guy who's a distraction on the team." Which is not to suggest
that Singletary isn't still steamed over Davis' performance
yesterday. To recap: Davis was hit with a 15-yard unnecessary
roughness penalty when he flicked the underside of Brian Russell's
facemask. Singletary said he saw the whole thing and thought Davis
was "kidding when he did it." What seemed to upset Singletary more
was Davis' reaction. He tried to talk to Davis as he came off the
sideline and Davis was defensive. When he looked behind him a few
seconds later, Davis was being demonstrative on the bench.
Singletary said he had a conversation just last week with Davis in
which he urged the talented TE to be a leader on the team. His
actions on the sideline were entirely opposed to what the new
coach was looking for.

New York Daily News: Jesse Chatman's hard-luck season got a lot
harder. The backup running back is expected to miss the remainder
of the season with a knee injury, Eric Mangini confirmed today.
Chatman was injured on a kickoff late in Sunday's win over the
Chiefs. He missed the first four games because of a league
suspension for testing positive for a banned substance. It leaves

ESPN: After a Week 8 in which Brad Johnson threw for a measly 122
yards and the Cowboys gained only 172 in all, their fewest ever in a
victory, internal concerns are emerging at Valley Ranch about whether
the NFL's oldest active QB can effectively incorporate Terrell Owens and Dallas' other receivers in the downfield passing game. A
high-ranking team source said the Cowboys will "probably" have
Johnson, the backup to injured Tony Romo, start against the defending
Super Bowl champion Giants on Sunday. But the same source said
Johnson's obvious limitations within the offense, on full display in
Sunday's 13-9 win over Tampa Bay, might prompt coach Wade Phillips
and his staff to consider other options, including third-stringer
Brooks Bollinger.

News Democrat: Rams WR Drew Bennett will start running
this week, so he's probably at least another week or so
away from returning from a broken foot.

Kansas City Star: Connor Barth acted as if kicking field goals for
the Chiefs was an old habit, and he did it front of one of his Kansas
City training-camp foes. The Chiefs signed Barth this week to replace
Nick Novak, whom the Chiefs chose over Barth after four preseason
games and a kicking competition that lasted throughout training camp.
But it was Jets kicker Jay Feely, whom the Chiefs signed for one day
before cutting him during the preseason, who watched Sunday as
Barth made a 30-yard field goal in the third quarter. Feely missed
his only field-goal attempt. "I was just so glad to get out there,"
Barth said.

Kansas City Star: Chiefs RB Larry Johnson has been charged with
simple assault after allegedly spitting his drink in a woman's face.
Kansas City police spokesman Darin Snapp said Johnson was charged
Monday and turned himself in, later being released after posting a
$500 bond. Snapp said the incident occurred on Oct. 10 at a Kansas
City nightclub. The 24-year-old victim reported that Johnson
threatened to kill her boyfriend before spitting his drink in her
face. After leaving the bar, she said Johnson tried to spit on her
again as he was escorted out. It is the fourth time in five years
that Johnson has been accused of assaulting a woman, and he faces a
possible suspension for violating league rules.

Chicago Tribune: Bears WR Brandon Lloyd was back on the practice
field Monday for the first time since spraining his left knee against
Philadelphia on Sept. 28. He was expected to be out two to four weeks
following the Week 4 injury, and Lloyd has missed the last three
games. He could be back in the lineup Sunday against Detroit.
Danieal Manning also returned to practice after sitting out last week
with a hamstring injury.

were upset with QB Tom Brady for opting against the team's
preferred doctors and undergoing surgery on the West Coast. After
published reports said Brady needed two more operations to clean
out an infection in his knee, ESPN.com, citing a source it did not
identify, reported that "the Patriots, as an organization, are
upset with the situation because they were clear that they wanted
Brady's surgery done under the direction of doctors of their
choosing in Boston." Later Thursday, the Patriots issued a
statement affirming their support for the quarterback who led them
to three Super Bowl titles. "This unsubstantiated report does not
represent the team's views whatsoever," the statement said. "We
have supported Tom Brady one hundred percent from day one of this
process and will continue to do so. ... Today, we reiterate our
total support for Tom as he recovers from his injury."

ESPN: Colts QB Peyton Manning had a staph infection that forced
doctors to operate on his knee a second time this offseason,
according to a report in Friday's Indianapolis Star. The Colts,
however, issued a statement Friday afternoon to "provide accuracy
with respect to medical facts" which said that the second
procedure had nothing to do with the infection. "Peyton Manning
developed swelling in his left pre-patella bursa in late
February," the Colts said in a statement released in conjunction
with the club's physicians. "The swollen bursa was treated
conservatively beginning in February with drainage and anti-
inflammatory medication. "The first signs of infection occurred
while he was in New Orleans in July. It should be noted that
infection developed prior to any surgery. Upon manifestation of
the signs of infection, he immediately had surgery to remove the
bursa sac. Concurrently, he was treated aggressively with
antibiotics, and the infection was eliminated.

details of Brady's recovery from knee surgery.

Providence Journal: Doctors are so concerned with the infection in
Tom Brady's left knee that they have performed three procedures in
an attempt to eliminate it, according to The Boston Herald, which
quotes an unnamed West Coast source familiar with the Patriots
quarterback's condition. Brady said last week on his web site that
following his Oct. 6 surgery to repair torn ligaments in his knee,
he had an arthroscopic procedure done to clean the wound. But the
Herald report indicates that there have been two more procedures
performed since that time. The newspaper's source says there is a
fear that the patellar tendon graft used to replace Brady's ACL is
in danger of being compromised, which could necessitate the ACL
reconstruction being removed and redone from scratch.

23 passes. "He's a better player than he showed in the game,"
Holmgren said. Wallace is playing with a calf muscle he injured in
September and aggravated in early October. Wallace said his leg
tightened up on him in Sunday's game.

AP reports: Patriots running back Sammy Morris did not practice
with the team on Thursday. The 31-year-old Morris, who also sat
out Wednesday's practice, injured his knee during New England's
41-7 victory over the Denver Broncos last Sunday and missed part
of the contest. Morris finished with 16 carries for 138 yards and
one touchdown in the win. Morris has 69 carries for 307 yards and
four rushing touchdowns this season. Has has also caught 12 passes
for 90 yards. New England (4-2) hosts the St. Louis Rams (2-4)
this Sunday at Gillette Stadium.

to his starting spot when Curtis and Brown, the team's top two
wide receivers last season, returned. Jackson leads the Eagles
with 29 catches for 433 yards, an average of 14.9. "Reggie and
Kevin are our two top receivers," quarterback Donovan Mcnabb said.
"I guess people forget about Reggie, and that's sad." The Eagles'
wide receivers have accounted for only three touchdowns this
season. Hank Baskett has two and Jackson the third.

Boston Herald: Doctors are so concerned about containing the
infection in Tom Brady's left knee they have performed three
procedures in an attempt to eradicate it, according to a source
familiar with the Patriots quarterback's travails on the West
Coast. While Brady acknowledged on his Web site that he had one
arthroscopic procedure done to "clean and to test the wound" last
Wednesday, the Herald has learned there have been two additional
procedures performed since that time, with the same goal in mind.
According to the source, the fear is the patellar tendon graft
used to replace Brady's anterior cruciate ligament is in danger of
becoming compromised. Should that occur, the entire ACL
reconstruction would have to be removed and redone from scratch.
That would push back his rehab and recovery period, which in turn,
could delay his return to the field.

boost to their receiver corps with the return of Joey Galloway.
Absent the last five games with a foot injury, Galloway had one of
his busiest practices of the season Wednesday.

has been the team's No.3 receiver when healthy (he missed most of
training camp with a toe injury), has 10 catches for 131 yards
this season.

Panthers.com: Being on the practice field -- even on a limited
basis -- was an upgrade in and of itself for wide receiver D.j. Hackett, who continues to recover from a knee injury suffered on
the opening kickoff of the Panthers' Week 5 win over Kansas City.
But his limited work Wednesday was enough for head coach John Fox
to declare that Hackett was now "day-to-day" after his first
practice work since Oct. 5. "He looked better," Fox said. "I think
he's definitely now day-to-day; he's not week-to-week any more,
which is a good sign." In spite of missing the last three games,
Hackett still ranks fourth on the Panthers in receptions and
receiving yardage, with 10 catches for 131 yards. "He's a guy that
had production for us early in the season, had the injury and
we're happy to have him back out there." Fox said.

ESPN: Chad Ocho Cinco will keep his dual identity for the rest of
the season. The Cincinnati Bengals receiver formerly known as Chad Johnson said Thursday he'll wear his old name on the back of his
uniform for the rest of the season. It would have cost him a lot
of money to make the switch for this year. "We've just left it
alone," he said, in an interview. "I'll just wait and do it next
year."

ESPN: Chiefs RB Larry Johnson will be deactivated for the second
week in a row. Johnson, a two-time Pro Bowler, was not active last
week as punishment for breaking team rules. The running back is
under investigation by the NFL after a woman accused him of
spitting at her two weeks ago in a Kansas City nightclub.

The Bengals signed guard Andrew Crummey from the practice squad of
the Washington Redskins; placed linebacker Keith Rivers on injured
reserve; waived kicker Dave Rayner.

4for4 on Connor Barth reports: rookie Barth, the main KC kicker
played his college ball at North Carolina ... he converted a
school-record 54 of 71 FGs (76.1%) and 103 of 109 PATs for 265
points.

AP reports: The Eagles expect to get running back Brian Westbrook
and wide receiver Kevin Curtis back on the field for Sunday's game
against the Atlanta Falcons. Head coach Andy Reid said at a press
conference on Wednesday that both players should be ready to go
for Sunday. Westbrook missed Philadelphia's 40-26 win over the San
Francisco 49ers on October 12 with fractured ribs. The Pro Bowl
running back suffered the injury in the Eagles' 23-17 loss to
Washington on October 5. The Eagles are coming off a bye, and
Westbrook returned to practice on Wednesday. In four games this
season for the 3-3 Eagles, Westbrook has run for 194 yards and
four touchdowns on 54 carries. He also has 14 catches for 97 yards
and two scores. Curtis has yet to play this season after
undergoing surgery in August for a sports hernia. Reid said
Wednesday that Curtis will probably make his season debut against
the Falcons. Curtis had 77 receptions for 1,110 yards and six
touchdowns last season for the Eagles, his first campaign with the
club.

New York Newsday: As for speculation that Jets QB Brett Favre's
hurt, Favre said that there's nothing wrong with his arm or body.
"I'm a little sore today but that's been two days (since the
game)," Favre said before smiling. "But I can play today. I could.
I tihnk I'll practice today, too."

AP reports: Eagles wideout Reggie Brown participated in practice
on a limited basis as he recovers from a groin injury that kept
him out of the game in San Francisco. Brown has 10 catches for 163
yards in three games this season for the Eagles, and has missed
time with a hamstring injury as well.

Kansascity.com: Chiefs QB Brodie Croyle will be placed on the
injured-reserve list and have surgery soon to repair torn knee
ligaments.

Rocky Mountain News: Broncos Running back Michael Pittman who has
sore ribs on his right side and also had a stinger in Monday's
game, was being sent for a precautionary exam by a neurosurgeon
Wednesday to check his neck. "But I'm fine, they're just going to
make sure,'' Pittman said.

Rocky Mountain News: Broncos Wide receiver Chad Jackson, who was
in for a workout recently, will be brought back to visit with
Shanahan and could be signed as well.

Kansascity.com: The Chiefs signed QB Quinn Gray and he was to be
at practice with the Chiefs today. Gray formerly played with
Jacksonville. He was one of two quarterbacks to workout for the
Chiefs on Tuesday. Bruce Gradkowski was the other.

Kansas City Star: Chiefs quarterback Damon Huard was moved to the
injured reserve Wednesday and will not play again this season.
Huard suffered an injury to his right thumb in the first half of
Sunday's 34-10 loss to Tennessee. Brodie Croyle also was moved to
the IR.

Florida Times Union: WR Matt Jones hasn't been suspended, because
he practiced Tuesday when the Jaguars resumed drills after the bye
week. Jones didn't go into the locker room during media time to
discuss whether he's appealing what ESPN reported will be a three-
game suspension stemming from his drug arrest in Arkansas in July.
Jones now appears likely to play against the Browns.

Washington Post: Redskins WR Malcolm Kelly has suffered another
setback in his recovery from knee problems, Jim Zorn said, and the
Redskins could opt to put him on the injured reserve list, ending
his season, by the end of the week. Kelly was unable to practice
today after his knee swelled again, Zorn said. It has been drained
frequently since preseasoin knee surgery and Kelly has been unable
to play or practice regularly. He will undergo another MRI today.
"It swelled up again in the last couple of days" Zorn said, saying
the team will decide whether to continue giving Kelly time to get
healthy or opt for "another guy."

Rocky Mountain News: Broncos Quarterback Patrick Ramsey, who
played six plays against the Patriots in the first half Monday
night, reaggravated a right elbow injury he suffered in training
camp. The injury is severe enough that he will miss the rest of
the season. The Broncos added Ramsey to injured reserve Wednesday.

Boston Globe: Patriots running back Sammy Morris did not practice
with the team on Wednesday.

Denver Post: According to three NFL sources, the Broncos learned
Tuesday that strongside linebacker Boss Bailey and backup
quarterback Patrick Ramsey will be lost for the season. Bailey
needs microfracture surgery to repair the knee damage he has
received throughout his playing career, and again Monday night
during the Broncos' humiliating 41-7 loss to the Patriots. Ramsey
reinjured his right throwing elbow, which had been bothering him
since the third preseason game.

Houston Chronicle: Texans wide receiver André Davis could be out
for at least three weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a
dislocated ring finger on his left hand. Davis, who also is the
Texans' kickoff returner, had been playing with the injury since
preseason, but it got so bad he underwent surgery Monday.

Kansas City Star: Chiefs quarterback Tyler Thigpen will start
Sunday at the Jets, and Ingle Martin will be the backup. Newly
signed quarterback Quinn Gray will be the third passer.

AP reports: Texans wide receiver Andre' Davis will be out up to
three weeks after having surgery for a dislocated ring finger on
his left hand. A pin was put in the finger of Davis, who has
seven receptions for 123 yards this season. "He can't play with
the pin in because it's actually sticking out of the skin, said
Texans coach Gary Kubiak. "So, when it comes out and we go back to
the tape job that we did before, he should be ready to go. But I
think the key is when does the pin come out and I really couldn't
tell you. I'm being told three weeks at the most." The Texans (2-
4), who have won their last two games, will host winless
Cincinnati on Sunday.

The Broncos placed linebacker Boss Bailey and quarterback Patrick Ramsey on injured reserve; placed tackle Erik Pears on
reserve/non-football illness list; released defensive tackle
Steven Harris from the practice squad.

Denver Post: Broncos RB Michael Pittman was momentarily dazed with
a neck injury and was replaced by Andre Hall. On his first carry,
Hall fumbled it away. Next drive: Pittman was again running hard
until he momentarily needed a breather. Hall got a second chance.
He fumbled again. Hall never got a chance to carry the ball from
the tailback position again.

Washington Post: After hurting his groin in Sunday's 14-11 victory
over Cleveland, quarterback Jason Campbell said yesterday he
doesn't expect any problems preparing for Detroit. "It feels
good," Campbell said. "I'm fine. It's just sore. But other than
that I'm fine. I got looked at, the doctor said all we have to do
is work on flexibility, and you can just do that every day, just
take 10 minutes. Just work on stretching and just stay loose and
preparing yourself." Asked if he would miss practice - the
Redskins begin preparations for Detroit tomorrow - Campbell said:
"I won't miss practice. It's not to that certain extent, to no
means. If we had to play a game tomorrow, I'd be ready." Campbell
reiterated that the groin, which he tweaked in the first half when
he slipped, affected him slightly during the game, but that it
loosened up a bit.

Denver Post: The Broncos played as if they had stage fright. They
fumbled. They threw interceptions. They committed silly penalties
and flagrant fouls. Their quarterback, Jay Cutler, suffered a
finger injury on his throwing hand on the game's first play and
never was effective. Their two Baileys, outside linebacker Boss
and cornerback Champ, each suffered significant injuries in the
first half. The Broncos were so atrociously undisciplined and
defeated in such a significant game, they left the impression
their hearts and minds were directed more on the upcoming bye week
and their mini-vacations than on the Patriots. Remember, the
Broncos were trounced 41-3 by San Diego entering their bye week
last season. Cutler eventually had to get his hand treated late in
the second quarter and X-rayed at halftime. He returned in the
second half.

St. Petersburg Times: Bucs WR Ike Hilliard was released from the
hospital Sunday night, and "all indications are good,'' coach Jon
Gruden said during his news conference Monday at One Buc Place.
Hilliard left the field on a cart with a head injury after he
suffered a helmet-to-helmet hit from Seattle linebacker Leroy Hill
following a catch in the first half of the Bucs' 20-10 win over
the Seahawks. "I think the good news is he's going to be okay,"
Gruden said. "We'll let you know on his status in the coming
days." Gruden called Hilliard questionable for Sunday's game at
Dallas. With Maurice Stovall already out, the Bucs will have to
lean heavily on Antonio Bryant, who had 115 receiving yards
against Seattle, Michael Clayton and Brian Clark.

Providence Journal on Sammy Morris reports: RB Morris was seen
walking out of the locker room last night without even a limp.

Boston Globe: Patriots RB Sammy Morris totals 138 yards on 16
carries, playing only in the first half before leaving with a knee
injury.

Nashville Tennessean: Titans HC Fisher said he was hopeful that
Gage (knee), McCareins (hamstring), defensive end Kyle Vanden
Bosch (groin) and DT Tony Brown (ankle) "will be on the practice
field at some point this week." Gage, McCareins and Brown did not
play against the Chiefs. Vanden Bosch left the game after three
plays. Fisher said he would have liked to put rookie DE William
Hayes on the field for 15-18 plays had he known Vanden Bosch would
be unable to play extensively. Hayes was inactive.

Cincinnati Enquirer: Bengals RB Cedric Benson, in three games, has
rushed for 88 yards on 28 attempts, a 3.1-yard average. He started
Sunday against the Steelers ahead of previous starter Chris Perry,
who did not get a carry. "As a runner, he runs well behind his
pads," Bengals HC Lewis said of Benson on Monday. "I think he is
decisive and quick into cuts and so forth. We want to keep working
hard with him in all the other areas, but he's done a good job as
a ball carrier." Asked about Benson's future with the team, Lewis
said: "He is on a one-year deal and he's doing a good job. We'll
get to those things as we get later in the season."

Washington Post: Redskins RB Ladell Betts (knee) and CB Shawn
Springs (calf strain) are doubtful to play Sunday in Detroit. Both
are likely to come back after the bye week, according to sources
with knowledge of the results of their MRI exams.

Pittsburgh Gazette: Rookie Rashard Mendenhall joined Willie Parker
in the backfield this year to supposedly give the Steelers the
best one-two punch at RB they've had in years. They were to be #1
and 1-A. Coordinator Bruce Arians even talked about teaming them
to form a "pony" backfield on occasion. Everyone, even the
coaching staff, forgot about the exercise pony, or their 3-4
punch, Mewelde Moore. Moore was signed as an unrestricted free
agent from the Vikings 2 days after free agency began to take over
as the Steelers' 3rd-down back. He seemed perfect for the job,
better than they have had in the past because he not only could
block, he was a threat to run and catch passes as well. "He has
things that are potentially attractive to us," Steelers coach Mike
Tomlin said on the day they signed him to a 3-year contract for
$4.95 million that included a $1.35 million signing bonus.

ESPN: Papers filed in Surry County (Va.) Circuit Court indicate
former NFL QB Michael Vick will enter a guilty plea next week to
state dogfighting charges. Surry County Circuit Court
administrator Sally Neblett said Tuesday that a hearing has been
scheduled for Oct. 30 on a motion to hear a plea from Vick by
video conference. The story was first reported by The Virginian-
Pilot.

The Eagles signed fullback Kyle Eckel to a two-year contract;
released safety J.R. Reed; signed guard Nevin McCaskill to the
practice squad; released fullback Jed Collins.

ESPN: Jaguars wide receiver Matt Jones was suspended three games
for a violation of the league's substance-abuse policy.

Kansas City Star: The Chiefs might extend Larry Johnson's absence
from their starting lineup. Coach Herm Edwards said Monday that he
hadn't determined whether Johnson would play in Sunday's game
against the Jets at the Meadowlands. Edwards held Johnson out of
Sunday's 34-10 loss to Tennessee at Arrowhead Stadium because
Johnson was late for meetings and other team obligations. Edwards
said last week the benching would be for only one game. Edwards
wouldn't elaborate on his reasons for possibly benching Johnson
against the Jets. But in the last week, two different allegations
of assault against Johnson have surfaced.

NFL.com: The Chiefs lost starting QB Brodie Croyle for the season
with a right knee injury. Croyle was making his first appearance
Sunday after missing the last four games with a separated right
shoulder. His replacement, Damon Huard, suffered an apparent right
thumb injury and is uncertain for next week.

St. Louis Dispatch: The Rams are about as thin as can be at
running back, with Brian Leonard out for the season with a
shoulder injury and Antonio Pittman missing his third straight
game Sunday with a broken leg. Pittman did practice on Wednesday
and Friday last week, but it might be a stretch to have him play
against the Patriots, particularly if he has to carry the load in
the backfield.

NFL.com: Chicago Bears kick returner and WR Devin Hester injured a
quadriceps muscle in the third quarter Sunday against the
Minnesota Vikings and had to leave the game. It was not
immediately known how Hester got hurt, but he did return the
second half kickoff and was initially charged with a fumble before
video review reversed the call and gave the ball to the Bears.

ESPN: This isn't what the Patriots envisioned for their backfield.
Already without QB Tom Brady, the Pats placed running back
Laurence Maroney on the injured reserve list, ending his season on
Monday. Maroney has missed both of the Patriots' losses this
season with a shoulder injury and has rushed only 28 times for 93
yards in New England's three victories. He rushed for 835 yards
and six touchdowns last season as the Patriots ran up a perfect
record until a Super Bowl loss to the Giants. The Minnesota
product r an for 745 yards and six more TDs in his rookie season.

Kanasas City Star: Chiefs QB Damon Huard, suffered an apparent
right thumb injury and is uncertain for next week.

NFL.com: Chiefs president Carl Peterson said Sunday night the team
is aware of an investigation into running back Larry Johnson's

ESPN: Chiefs HC Edwards benched Larry Johnson for Sunday's game
against Tennessee for violating team rules. Now, Kansas City's
star RB soon might incur additional punishment, this time from the
NFL -- and for different reasons. During the Chiefs' recent bye
week, Johnson was involved in a physical altercation with a woman
at a KC nightclub, sources told ESPN -- the 2nd such late-night
incident he's found himself in this year. The incident is
consistent with a pattern of off-field behavior that league
sources expect will lead to a suspension for Johnson under the
NFL's personal conduct policy. It's unclear whether or not
Johnson has been or will be charged in the incident. "It's just a
matter of for how long," one source said.

old calf injury has healed enough for him to replace Charlie Frye,
the third-stringer who was skittish and ineffective in last week's
loss to Green Bay."He looked OK," coach Mike Holmgren told The
Seattle Times Friday. "But more importantly, probably, is that he
feels OK. It's going to be his ball game I believe unless
something happens in the next two days. And I've got confidence in
him."

Dallas Baker injured, Sweed finally fits into the Steelers'
rotation. His debut, weeks later than expected, was substantially
delayed as Sweed went through the adjustments all NFL rookies must
make. "He's come a long way," said Roethlisberger, who asked the
front office for a tall receiver at the end of last season. "It's
hard because you don't get a lot of work in practice with me
because I've got to work with the other guys (the starters). I'm
sure if he gets a chance, he'll do just great."

setback to the Miami Dolphins in Week 5 and missed the Chargers'
convincing 30-10 thrashing of the New England Patriots this past

Washington Post: Washington is already without running back Ladell Betts, who is expected to miss two-to-four weeks with a sprained
knee suffered in Sunday's 19-17 loss to the Rams. In the wake of
that news, the team signed free agent running back Shaun Alexander
on Tuesday to back up Portis.

Times Picayune: Reggie Bush, Jeremy Shockey and Marques Colston
are all likely to play in Sunday's game at Carolina. All three of
the Saints' offensive stars are listed as probable on the official
injury report after they practiced on a limited basis Friday.
Saints HC Payton said he expects Bush to be "100 percent" healthy
and not limited at all in Sunday's game on offense or in the punt
return game. "He'll play his normal role," Payton said. Both he
and Bush reiterated that they just wanted to rest Bush's left
knee, which has experienced occasional swelling and soreness
throughout the season. They said it will be good for Bush to play

4for4 reports: Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (right shoulder) did some
limited work for a third consecutive day Friday and is expected to
start on Sunday. However, the weather forecast in Green Bay is a
little worrisome for the passing games. Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning might be facing windy conditions at Lambeau Field on
Sunday. While the forecast has a 30% chance of showers, it does
call for winds up to 21 mph at kickoff. It could mean a few more
touches for Dominic Rhodes and Ryan Grant, and a few short passes
to TEs Dallas Clark and Donald Lee.

4for4 reports: Ravens WR Yamon Figurs (knee) didn't practice for a
third consecutive day
Friday and won't play on Sunday.

4for4 reports: Bears RB Matt Forte was rested Wednesday but took
full reps Thursday and
Friday indicating he's on track to start as normal.

4for4 reports: Texans RB Chris Taylor (quadricep) won't play this
week.

ESPN: Titans starting WR Justin Gage missed practice again Friday
and will be questionable for Sunday's game at Kansas City. d Gage
has not practiced in three weeks because of a right knee injury.

4for4 reports: Broncos WR Brandon Stokley (concussion) is not
someone to count on. He's yet
to practice this week. While he could play, at best Stokley is
going to be a
game time call and he's not worth waiting around for.

4for4 reports: Seahawks TE Will Heller (knee) was officially ruled
out today.

play as needed Monday.

weekend. He's a game time call and he missed practice again on

4for4 reports: Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (illness questionable)
was given time off to rest and he did not practice Friday. Stewart
should be able to shake the illness in time to play but to be safe
you should treat him as a game time decision. If he's just unable
to play, Deangelo Williams will need to carry a bigger load and
he'll be positioned for a big game against the Saints. On
the down side, the Panthers offensive line just can't get healthy
and they'll be without both Jeff Otah and Ryan Kalil.
